@PappyJoe It's still the devil's music, but the good news is that at our age, it won't lead to pre-marital sex or gateway drugs. If it did, SWMBO would begin by blacking both eyes.
@xdutchx - at our age, we are way past pre-marital sex and taking some many legally prescribed drugs from our doctors that we don't need gateway drugs... except Rum. Rum is always the exception.
I gave up the head-banging music before it got popular and I don't do rap or hip-hop.
@motie2 I don't know about Spock's Brain ... but there is a band called Spock's Beard. I'll have to see if I can find something from them. Expect five blank messages from me as I struggle to post a video.
@ghostsofpompeii -- Spock's Beard, that's it. I'm getting old. I'm a leaf on the wind, and by the way, why is the rum gone? Sometimes my mind wan........
I'll never figure out what I'm doing wrong. I did it once with The Flower Kings video ... but since then nada. I'm an idiot, plain and simple. I seriously believe my Mother dropped me on the soft spot of my head when I was a baby and was too afraid to tell anyone for fear Child Protective services would have yanked me from the home. So that portion of the brain which operates simple tasks on a computer has atrophied and broken off, and the pieces are probably floating around in my brain sack like a school of dead guppies.
I believe listening to too much UNIVERS ZERO has seriously warped my brain. Their song "Jack The Ripper" is one of the most morose, gothic pieces of music you'll ever hear. It's unsettling and creepy as all get out. I usually ply the entire album the tune come from "Heresis" on Halloween night, pumping it out the window as the terrified Trick 'r Treaters come to the door.
Growing up in the Chicagoland area during the 60s' the AM radio was awash with some damn fine Chicago bands. A some of the best ballads came from The New Colony Six. I can't help but get a little nostalgic when hearing these sappy love songs.
No matter how old I get I can still vividly recall spinning 45s at parties as a teenager. Listening to those syrupy sweet love ballads brings it all back to me. Bands like The New Colony Six, The Association, and The Turtles had a knack for writing those love ballads that quickly became "our song" for high schoolers going 'steady'. Looking back at them with fresh ears these short two or three minute tunes were tightly compacted and beautifully arranged, contained brilliant melodies and vocal harmonies, and simple but quality songwriting with a catchy unforgettable hook. Sadly, even though many songs from these artists are considered bona fide classics, I seriously doubt that neither The New Colony Six, The Association, or The Turtles would stand a chance in today's market. And a song like "Happy Together", "Cherish", or "Never My Love" - all considered classics - wouldn't find a market and be relegated to the scrap heap.
@ghostsofpompeii -- I got to see the Association and Paul Revere and the Raiders on a twin bill at the University of Cincinnati, (....and, well, also the Fugs, but a different date.) You can still listen to the Association, but the Raiders not so much. As for the Fugs..... lost, I'm afraid, in time.
@motie2 I've been to a few of those Oldies Rock & Roll Shows myself and saw the guys from The Turtles (Flo & Eddie), Tommy James & The Shondells, The Buckinghams, and another group which has completely slipped my mind. I can be a bittersweet experience seeing the older guys trying to recapture their youth, especially when the aging process has not been quite so kind. The bands mentioned above all did a credible job of recreating that 60s' vibe and all sounded very good. But there have been a few shows I've attended where not only the magic was gone but so too were their vocal cords. My sisters saw Paul Revere And The Raiders and came back with a similar lukewarm review as yours.
Click on the first link. The second link doesn't work. I added the second link because that's how it was explained to me to get it to play directly at the site. But as you can see when I put the exact YouTube number down including the https://www. it doesn't seem to work. Don't know what I'm doing wrong so I can't correct my mistake. I write it exactly as written I get nothing. So I have to use the share button with the period between the u.b as youtu.be. so I can at least post the link. And I leave off the watch?v= which is part of the address. So what am I doing wrong?
