Two more pipes are as clean as I can get them and ready to be sold. The one in front is as Ascorti Peppino made for the Tinderbox. The one in back is an Ascorti Business. Both still have a little charing around the rim.
Looks like I'm gonna have some refurbishing/refinishing work ahead. Estate sale find. There's a Chacom, George Jensen, Calabrest, etc. As I work on them, I'll let you know what they are...
@KA9FFJ is the George Jensen the same Jensen that was the famous Danish Silversmith? I know he made knives and ceramics as well but wasn't sure if he also made pipes? How many George Jensen's can Denmark have? and excellent score by the way!
@Zouave I think the name Jensen in Denmark is like Smith here in the US. I'm guessing that's probably why they usually attach a first name (George in this case) to their products, to help narrow it down a bit... There's also a FE.RO (Italy) in the group. But they're all going to need quite a bit of work...
@KA9FFJ how funny,bi just listened to the pipes magazine pod cast today and it was about the very same conversation. They had an interview with the current George Jensen from MacBarren
@RockyMountainBriar Yes, I looked up the history on the pipe a couple of days after I acquired the pipe. But tnx so much for taking the time to help a fellow enthusiast out. You're the best...
A Fe.Ro. was one of the first new pipes I bought. I purchased it from one of the local tobacconists where a friend was working at the time. I wanted to support their shop “Stogies”. Sadly that friend has passed, I still have the pipe though.
Just received these 3 pipes for a few cents over 5 bucks a piece. From top to bottom: Yorkshire Supreme lovat XL prince (?) Marlborough 399 billiard Just 3 more things to keep me busy during this stressful time...
@PappyJoe it's stamped XL Real Briar. That's it... no other markings anywhere. Oh, it does have a single yellow dot ot the top of the stem (see the pic above).
@KA9FFJ You may have to shine a bright light on the shank and look at it under a magnifying glass. I've had several estate pipes where you could just barely make out the stamps because they were worn down so much.
@KA9FFJ nice finds. I made the foolish mistake of leaving three unfinished refurbs in my bench at work. Now they are all locked tight away for the duration. 😂 Looks like I'll have to revisit some oldies I have tossed in the basement.
@PappyJoe someone told me Sasieni (probably spelled wrong) made seconds that, among other names, were labeled XL. Nothing for sure though... I'll take your suggestion when I start the cleaning process.
Ok, I've never done this before. My wife found this on FB Marketplace so I picked it up. It's a 6 pipe rack with tobacco humidor and 5 pipes.
Ok here is the pipe breakdown.

I've never purchased old pipes before and I know these are not high end but they seem to have been taken care of. The Italian Brier has a hole in the mouth piece. Not sure how or if it can be repaired.
@Londy3 Decent looking pipes and the stand/jar are in really nice shape. The cob looks like a MM to me. The stem can probably be repaired with “Black Max” and/or epoxy.
@Londy3 oh, sorry, it is “toughened” “Super Glue” that is black. It is Loctite 380, there seems to be others, but the only one I use is the Loctite brand. You can use regular “Super Glue”/cyanoacrylic accelerator to make it cure almost instantly. Then just use small needle files to fair it down and finish with sandpaper and buffing compound...depending on how smooth and shiny you want it.
@Londy3@RockyMountainBriar is right on. Loctite is my choice for stem repair. Sometimes, at least here, black is hard to find. That's when I take a Dremel and sand some black vulcanite from a broken stem down to almost powder. Add my clear Loctite, mix THOROUGHLY, and go to it. Takes a little longer to set up, but the final result is the same...
@KA9FFJ I don't know who told you the Sasieni seconds were just marked XL but I'm pretty sure they were wrong. Most of the sub-brands and/or seconds made by Sasieni usually had the name of the sub-brand stamped under Sasieni. There were about five or six sub-brands that didn't have Sasieni stamped on them but did have the name. One thing for certain is that none of the sub-brands or seconds had a dot on the stem.
What you probably have is a basket pipe. Still, it's nice looking.
@PappyJoe Tnx brother. Good to know. I appreciate the time you took to check it out... I was steered to a website that suggested it could have come from that pedigree. I thought the internet never lied... 😏

In case you’re wondering, maybe you already know? Fe.Ro. = Federico Rovera.

What's the brand on the one in the middle?

There are several pipes that had single yellow dots but they all had other stamping.

@KA9FFJ this looks like it's right up your alley.

If it is a small hole, it works very well.
