According to pipedia.org, Twelve Trees is an Italian pipe made for the U.S. market. It doesn't provide any further information.
Did some digging around though and found the Tree pipes were owned by Oppenheimer Pipes Ltd. which was a holding company for a number of pipe companies - Comoy's, GBD, Dr. Plumb, Orlik, Ropp, etc.. The image that shows for Tree pipes has the number 12 in front of Tree.
I FINALLY found a pipe I like at an antique store in Eureka Springs, AR. I'm not sure the brand, but it's Algerian briar & made in France. The only markings are "Rough Root" "Algerian Briar" "Made in France." There is an 'R' barely visible on the stem. I don't think "Rough Root" is the brand but more a description/style since I've seen other pipes referred to as rough root.
I just cleaned it up (reamed, salt treatment, stem work, lots of everclear & bristle cleaners). I love the sandblast & color of this little bulldog. I'll probably test it out tomorrow after it thoroughly dries.
Any idea what brand this is or who probably manufactured it? I've googled and looked on PipePedia but couldn't find anything definitive.
It was no help in this case, but for all those seeking to identify pipe manufacturerers or countries of origin, one excellent resource is -- http://www.pipephil.eu/logos/en/index-en.html
@jfreedy Looked at the R on your stem. The closest match I could find was Antique... a brand of Hans Richter... Not saying that's it, but sure looks like it COULD be...
Thanks @motie2! The 'R' on the Richmond or one of the Medicos looks the closest to me. I can't imagine it's a Medico though. Weren't they all made in the US?
@motie2 - I looked at the description on that pipe. The phrase: "The briar has also been aged for about 40 years or more since this was made, " made me laugh. The pipe may have gotten older but I don't know if it continued to age.
@motie2 - my local tobacconist (a pipe guy) thinks these were probably just basket pipes that happened to have nice briar. All I know is that it’s light and smokes great. So I’m happy.
Made a 4-day trip to visit my sisters in SE Texas and of course that included walking around flea markets, antique shops and malls and junktique shops. Here's my finds: 1. Made a pit stop in Baton Rouge at The Pink Elephant and stumbled onto a pipe stamped "Savinelli Product" under "Bayou Tobacco." This is obviously a full bent pipe produced for the Bayou Tobacco pipe and cigar shop which was open until last year. 2. I found a small Scottie Dog pipe single pipe holder that only set me back $6 in Lumberton, Texas 3. A beautiful (in my eyes) ceramic tobacco jar. Found is an antique shop in Vidor, Texas, and, in the same store... 4. A small, cast iron Brighton 3 tobacco plug cutter with a Jester on top.
@KA9FFJ - It is an interesting pipe. It has the Savinelli logo on the acrylic stem and as I said earlier it is stamped Savinelli Product on the bottom of the bowl but doesn't have the logo or model number. I'm reaching out to the people connected to Bayou Tobacco to find out when they were doing these house pipes.
