I stopped in at John B. Hayes tobacconist after work today and picked up a tin of Maltese Falcon. While I was there I found a tin of Balkan mixture by Brebbia. I bought a new cobbit because you can't have too many cobbits and this sandblast half bent brandy glass Italian that was in the basket.
Thanks @motie2. I've been lucky with basket pipes. I always look through the basket even when I'm not in the market for a new pipe because you never know... :)p
I bought a couple of tins of G.L. Pease “Temple Bar” that I received today. I cut a few flakes off while I was transferring the tobacco to a mason jar. I also opened both tins to check for mold issues, no worries so far👌🏻 Also, for anyone interested, Rattray’s “Exotic Passion” was in stock at SP.com today. I have not looked recently to see if it still in stock though.
Just returned from NYC and had a chance to check out Davidoff Tobacconists on 6th Ave. Looking forward to breaking these two tins open. Great staff there, very kind, helpful and patient. It was a nice find and worth the stop in.
@motie2 I tried Diamond Head in the Capt. Earl line and found it to be a little too smokey for my delicate palate. The flavor, moisture and consistency was good, just too strong for me.
@motie2 ~ I have quite a bit of Captain Earle's Ten Russians in my cellar. A strong latakia blend. I love it but haven't tried the other blends in the series.
I've smoked my way through one tin of Ten Russians. It just didn't have the latakia strength it takes to match the English blend I got from Mr. Vottis in Schenectady back in '73. Still searching.
Doing some 50/50 VG Vanilla and Smokers Pride (Lane) Vanilla in a repaired, reworked and refurbished Cortina sitter while working on a pipe rack project..
@RockyMountainBriar - thanks for asking. I've had only time for one bowl and I thought it was "okay." I had expected more, whatever more is - just because I've seen so much written about it. But to be fair, I ended up being rushed on that particular smoke (rushing and pipe smoking don't ever really go together) and what I need to do is take my time. I used my Rattray Bent Apple but I really want to try it in my Nording freehand. Probably my fault for diving in when I didn't have the time, but I was just too anxious to experience it, I suppose:)

That is one great looking basket pipe. Congrats!!!!
I have another two tins on the way👏🏻🎉....tasty stuff.....at least for me.
I had a hard time deciding between the dragon or the tiger. I was born in a year of the dragon, so I went with that🙂

Maybe not the right thread, but just wanted to ask what you thought of the Rattray’s “Exotic Passion”?
I really enjoy that tobacco.
Dang! I like your definition of a "try."
