@motie2; I own that very pipe. It is covered with cork. Smokes great and the bowl stays cool to the touch. I really paid more than I should, but I love it.
Was given this pipe yesterday by my son. And yes, it is a functioning pipe... I placed a quarter by the bowl as a size reference. I think I'll make a display holder, possibly wall mount, to hang in my pipe/tobacco storage area... I'm afraid if anyone sees me smoke it, they might think I'm Gandalf... 😏
@KA9FFJ I hate to admit it, but I really enjoy churchwardens, But Im so self conscious about looking wizardish that I often pass them over for my shorter pipes. I say smoke that bad boy. It has a great looking stem on it.
The yellow stem on that Bing is for those that own a pair of those Warby Parker glasses in their commercials. The blue isn’t terrible, but dang, those others😖. They are reasonably priced, I guess?
@RockyMountainBriar I got this pipe in a bunch of others I grabbed. Its a Aerosphere Duncan Hill. I had no idea what the hole in the stem was for until I looked them up. Unfortunately the bowl is so burned out I don't think there is enough briar to save it.
@Zouave I have a Duncan Hill Aerosphere. It is a smooth bent pipe though. @motie2 has one also. I’m not sure about how to read your post though, so I will mention that the Aerosphere air-hole is not the same as the “weed” pipe “carb”. I think you probably figured that out already, but I thought I would mention it. I have several Yello-Bole’s with a “carburetor” hole/holes in the bottom of the bowl that are basically the same function as the Duncan Hill’s Aerosphere. I suppose the Yello-Bole’s could be put into service in the same manner as a “weed” “carb” pipe though? I have a couple of Yello-Bole “AirControl” pipes that have an adjustable air hole in a knurled ring on the shank’s stem end….maybe it’s on the stem, I don’t recall at the moment🤔. It would function similarly to the Aerosphere.
@Zouave Sounds like it is a candidate for a briar or meerschaum bowl lining🤔. The meerschaum liners at Vermont Freehand are pretty inexpensive…at least they were when I bought a couple a few years ago.
@RockyMountainBriar I was unfamiliar with any type of carb holes. It was all new for me, but the weed pipe looked similar. I will check out Vermont freehand for a liner. I was ready to toss the pipe out. Glad you mentioned it! Thanks
Every once in a while, Savinelli will put a very nicely grained piece out there among their production series pipes. These are typically briars that probably should cost a lot more than they do because of it. Here's one (and only one) example of that from SP. I have a Spring straight billiard that I love although it is quite heavy so I don't smoke it as much as my other pipes. The grain on this one is slightly out of vertical, but nice nevertheless.
I’ve been eyeing Savinelli Springs since I first started this hobby. They are usually very nicely grained, no “frills” pipes. They have fills usually, but very nice nonetheless. I’ve looked at the 920KS in the Spring finish, haven’t pulled the trigger though.
@RockyMountainBriar I guess nice briar is becoming harder to come by at a decent price (maybe the covid crap), but you're right, in the past, the Springs were nicely grained in general, but these days ones like that one are much rarer (in this price range)--I haven't seen one this nice in SP's Sav Spring lineup in ages. The ones they've been making over the last year or two have had a lot of birdseye and random patterning.
@vtgrad2003 I admit, I have not looked at them much recently. I keep wanting to get ine if the Savinelli POY Collection pipes, but dang ~$400 without Sterling or Gold.

You could bore the chamber a bit wider and use it for a pipe cleaner holder🙂….or just smoke it🙂

I agree with you 100%, that's actually a really nice pipe until they drilled that carb hole in it.

Yep, Vermont Freehand still has the meerschaum bowl liners at $4 each.
