@Uhcoogsfan - I'm originally from the Beaumont/Port Arthur area and most of my family still live in that area. The Coast Guard took me out of the area in 1972 and I just visit every now and then.
Have you found a local place to feed your pipe hobby or buy on-line?
@Uhcoogsfan Welcome😀 You’re smoking your coffee? 😂😂😂 My hat’s off to anyone that has the skills and perseverance to smoke their coffee🤠
I hope starting off with a little ribbing so early won’t offend you. I couldn’t help myself😜 TPL is a fun, informative, friendly, and entertaining place to hang out.
@PappyJoe there are a couple of places I hit here in the Houston area. The closest place caters more to cigar smokers but has decent amount of pipe supplies and tobacco. There is one in Houston that is dedicated more to pipe smokers but I hit a lot of traffic to get there. I buy online mostly from Smokingpipes but just placed an order with PipesandCigars.
@RockyMountainBriar, humor is good! I guess I could have said that better! Although I do like smoking meats on my smoker so maybe I should try smoking coffee because I sure haven’t figured out how to light my coffee in my pipe!
@Uhcoogsfan I drink dark roast coffees, and you can't go wrong with a quality French roast. Now, as to what pipe blend to enjoy with it, you have English/Latakia, Aromatics, and Virginia/Periques and other varieties. to choose from. (-10pts, for ending sentence with a preposition.....)
My dad was an accountant for a hundred years. It used to make him mad when I would say "I'm a Bookkeeper's Son" but I always was a huge Steely Dan fan. He loved to ask, "did you hear about the constipated accountant? He couldn't budget...so he worked it out with a pencil." (ba,dum...ching!)
I have checked out other groups on Facebook and just like "Facebook", it seems some of them focus on how rude they can be to each other and taking unnecessary shots at each other. I never would have expected this from a pipe group. I am not going to say which group it was and give credence to their group but truly, you won't have to look hard top find them. I thought pipe smokers were supposed to be gentlemen. This Pipe Life is always so laid back. Newcomers will find their way here sooner or later.
@OlePops That's a shame. I find that social media, especially facebook and twitter, lends itself for people to leave "hot takes" and try to rile others up. I'm part of corn cob nation and a few other groups, and I see some people on there leave some divisive messages. It's all too easy to just say something flippant and press send without thinking. Surprisingly, pipe twitter has been pretty friendly and welcoming in comparison to facebook.
