Yep, I knew they were invented before pipe cleaners to be used as a “consumable” to keep the airway and shank clean. They were not intended as a “stinger/condenser”. Sometimes they work great, other times they gurgle. So far, it depends on the pipe, not much difference in performance with or without. They just keep things cleaner.
I grabbed this 1932-1938 Yello-Bole #2004 shape from the rack this evening and loaded it up with some Newminster No.23 “Blackberry Brandy”. It has the “scoop” style “stinger” in it. In my experience they work as intended (one of the few “stinger” styles that do) at providing a nice, cool, dry, smoke. Tasty tobacco too😋 Three cheers for 80-90 year old briar still in “fighting” shape.
It was a two bowl night. First bowl was Elwood Flake No. 2 in my Santambrogio. Second bowl was HU United Passion Coming Home in my Peterson Sherlock Holmes.
Puff’in on some C&D “Espresso” in my RubyBark Lovat this evening. I had a nice quiet smoke, the power was out for three hours. It’s amazing how quiet the city gets when there is a bunch of outages all over town.
Tonight I have a Pete “Irish Harp” B5 loaded with some Peter Stokkebye PS#303 “Peaches & Cream”. I have a hot cup of black Java to keep me company…I may or may not have accidentally spilled some Tullamore Dew in it😉 It was weird, I was just holding the cork from the bottle and sniffing the aroma when a freaking leprechaun whooshed by and hit my other hand that I had hold of the bottle with. He must have been under the couch, I guess🤔. It was lucky I didn’t drop the bottle and I also saved the spill from getting on my table. Yep, luckily☘️, it all went into my coffee mug…whew.
Pretty bad when it gets so hot during the day that 90 degrees feels cool enough to sit outside and have a pipe. Rattray’s Tower Bridge in my Savinelli Belge.
Man I hate painting! I’m glad I thought to put my old “yard-work” shoes on. How I managed to only get one little drop of paint on my pants is anyone’s guess. They are “yard-work” pants too. I got my new 10x18 shed a few days ago, the first one they brought, a 10x20 was too long…by about 1/4”……the screw heads holding on the roof edge flashing😖. They forgot to allow for the trim on both ends, the flashing on both ends and the screws on both ends. Now I am debating on whether or not to push this one to the left against my big garage, or leave the 12”-18” gap on either side? If I leave the space, I can at least get any leaves, or whatever, removed. I just finished painting the floor with some Glidden floor paint. Hopefully it will keep the dust down a bit.
Winding down this evening with some “Devil’s Holiday” in my Joh’s churchwarden. I have a bit of Evan Williams Black Label, on the rocks, to pair. It’s about 70 degrees and beautiful. I guess I got use to the cooler weather🙂
Forgot to post these: Friday = played 18 while doing a bowl of Frankenblend in one of my Frankenpipes on the front 9. Liked it so well I decided to do another bowl on the back...
Wanted to get out of the house earlier today. Some HU Coming Home in my Santambrigio at Whiskey and Ashe. It’s a whiskey and cigar bar about 4 miles from my house.

Good to see you back, Brother.
Thanks man

Didn't smoke anything.
Sometimes I cuss the Leprechauns, but in my experience they also seem to know what is best. Do the Dew. Lovely pipe, by the way.
It was 108 here a few days ago, then the highs dropped to mid 70’s….I was freezing my ass off.

Shed looks nice, Brother.
90 degrees? Pipe smokers are a tough lot.
