Good evening and thank you for having me! I’ve piddled with a pipe off and on over the past 10 years or so, but I was completely missing the point of it all. I have a late 1960s vintage Kaywoodie that my dad gave me, one with a stinger. Definitely not a good pipe to learn on, so I chalk the failures of the past 10 years on the pipe itself, along with an unhealthy dose of impatience. About a month ago, I found a good deal on a Viking Babord 304 and became hooked! I could actually taste the tobacco and wasn’t ending up with my tongue stinging badly. I’ve since bought an unfinished Savinelli and it smokes even better (or I’ve begun putting it all together, hopefully).
Over the past month, I’ve figured out that indulging in a pipe is more about time spent rather than time wasted. I am looking forward to perusing the forums, gleaning wisdom, and trying to become an expert so that perhaps I can pass this one little life’s pleasure down to my grandsons one day.
@Cbuzz90; Pipe Smoking takes a little patience at first. It is all about relaxation for me. TPL is a good place to learn and share and is frequented by honorable people. Welcome and enjoy.

Welcome indeed!
And if you are available, join us Friday evenings on Zoom, for Virtual Pipe Club.
Thanks! I will definitely try to be there.
Glad to have you join our brotherhood.
i had the same problem with one of my first pipes; also a Kaywoodie. There’s nothing wrong with a stinger that a hacksaw can’t fix…..
