This C.DiFranco has always had a wet stem/gurgle problem. I just pulled the stem for the 4th or 5th time to swab it out and noticed that the end of the stem was not chamfered....well....I got out my de-burring tool and chamfered the stem. Wow, it smokes like a pipe should, it stopped the gurgle. This was an estate pipe, so I do not know if the stem is original or not, but the quick stem chamfer made a huge difference.
Well fellas, the pipe beat me this time. It was still smoking to gray ash. I gave up, it’s getting a bit chilly here, even in the garage. Had about a thumbnail of tobacco left in the bottom when I dumped it after 2 1/2 hours. Amazing how much of a difference that little chamfer job did.
Yes indeedy. The first pic is a BIG Irwin’s “Collector” “London Made” (a GBD second, or made for Irwin’s Pipe Shop?) that I just pulled off my rack. It was a pipe I refurbished years ago before I started chamfering my stems. I have not smoked it in awhile, but I think I remember it gurgling also. It has NOT been chamfered...yet. The second pic is the C.DiFranco’s stem...chamfered. The third pic is the Irwin’s “Collector” after I just chamfered it, and the tool I use.
Trying my first bowl of Haunted Pirate Ship, a youtube blend that's 50/50 C&D's Haunted Bookshop and Pirate Kake. I have to say, if C&D made this themselves, I'd probably buy it!
Backwoods Black and Mild in a straight mm I picked up at Rite Aid. I think this is the first Sutliff tobacco I've tried. Burley, Virginia, and Green River black Cavendish cased with vanilla is a winning formula and Sutliff has hit the spot. It goes really well with that after dinner coffee.

Big pipe, over two hours so far😬
I'm having a hard time picturing your chamfering job. Might you have a pic?
