Thanks for posting it, but, I call SHENANIGANS on this one from Pease, especially this quote

Total BS! Frankly, I don't know a bigger VA freak than I am, but everyone I know that also smokes a lot of VA all rest their pipes--maybe not as often as he was (i.e., no more than one bowl), but, certainly often. For instance, I never go more than about 3 days at the most before resting (depending on the pipe). In fact, you can make a strong case that VA's in particular, favor pipe resting. It's a much sweeter tobacco and if the bowl and/or resin gets saturated with moisture, it tends to change the flavor of the tobacco.
My step-grandfather was a pipe smoker and I never knew him to have more than four or five pipes. Until the mid 1970s his tobacco of choice was George Washington until they stopped making it and he switched to Carter Hall (I think). I remember him smoking every pipe he had two or three times a day and the only rest one pipe would get was the time he spent smoking on of the other pipes. I also knew him to dump the ash, wipe out the bowl with his handkerchief and then reload and relight his pipe. (I still have two of his old pipes I was given after he died in 1979)
I've also known a number of older pipe smokers back in the 1970s who would at most rest their pipe for an hour or two before smoking it again. All of them smoke OTC blends like Prince Albert, Carter Hall, etc. I should also concede that these were pipes made by Dr. Grabow, Yellobole and Kaywoodie - pipes found at drugstores.
I've personally have always felt that resting your pipe for a minimum of 24-hours is sort of like telling a man he needs to spend two-months salary for an engagement ring - "facts" designed to make you spend more money.
@PappyJoe LOL, I get that totally, it certainly seems like a 'buy more pipes' angle for sure; and I also remember my old man who only had 3 pipes, so obviously rotations were limited, but I do think (and maybe it's just my imagination) that even though rotation isn't 'necessary' for sure, it certainly helps the pipe smoke better.
There's a section on pipe smoking in episode 51 of Modern Marvels that aired on November 8, 2006 in season 13 of the show on the History Channel. The short segment has interviews of the late Craig Tarler of Cornell & Diehl and the late artisan pipemaker Sam Learned. It starts at the 31:20 minute mark.
Well, I did something I thought I would never do. I was perusing through Ebay when I spotted a pipe that caught my eye. I mean, I really liked the looks of this pipe. Upon closer examination, I found out it is a Fulushou pipe that's made in China. I immediately said, "no way", and continued my wanderings through Ebay. It was too late. The images of that pipe were burnt into my little pea brain, and couldn't be shaken. I went back and, after much deliberation, decided that for $22.50 (brand new pipe), I would take the gamble. I am smoking it as I write this and so far have absolutely no complaints. As a matter of fact, if it continues performing as well as it is presently, I will be placing it in my loosely structured rotation... By the way, that's a pear wood shank extension. Here's the pics:
i made the mistake of ordering a bundle of clay pipes from goodwill. When the package arrived, and I could hear the rattling in the box before I even opened it. Nearly every stem is snapped and after two emails to them, I still have yet to hear back. Needless to say I'm beyond pissed.
Found this on Amazon. Never had a poker before, so I decided to buy this pipe and keep my fingers crossed that it will be a good smoker. Besides: A pipe tool, pipe cleaners, 3 soft bits, 3 9mm filters, a pipe knocker, a pipe pouch and the pipe for around $22.50, I thought it was worth the gamble. At that price, I can afford to make it a work pipe and keep it in the garage... we'll see...
We have had the pleasure with working with a great individual that helped us create these. These are all Limited and some we’ll never see again. Like my favorite the OOM PAULS, and the Very Limited BLU line that we have, or the RNA Anchor pipe. Also have New Nose Warmers!
These new styles would make for amazing pipes once finished or can be easily enjoyed as is. We just ask that you make sure to wipe it down as we do work in a dusty warehouse

Here's a video taken in England in 1902. Lots of pipe smokers can be seen standing about.
