@motie2 The September 1946 issue has a couple of interesting articles about pipes during war time. The first is "Blowing Smoke Rings with the editor" and talks about pipes being used to smuggle messages to allied agents in Germany. Another one is titled "Pipes in Two Wars."
It's hard to read some of the type but you can get the basic stories.
<<Blog by Kenneth Lieblich Today, I thought I would try something a bit different. This is the first installment of what I am arbitrarily calling, Pipe Incident Report. My idea is to provide a brief write-up – focusing on a particular pipe-related problem and/or solution, rather than an entire restoration story. >>
What's worrying today's tobacco retailers? You may be surprised by what retailers chose as their top five biggest concerns in this year's Tobacco Business Retail Survey.
That tobacco business retailer concerns reads like a checklist from nearly all small businesses, at least the ones not artificially supported by the government.
I posted a link I found on youtube about an old pipe collection on the "Pipes, Pipes, Pipes" discussion.
If you watch youtube videos, type in Pipe Collection beware and check out some of the old British Pathe newsreel videos about pipes. This one is interesting if you're curious about clay pipes...
<<After several weeks at sea, the cargo on the merchant ships returning from the New World would frequently start to emanate a particular fragrance. What was happening in these damp, airless, confined spaces packed with bales or barrels (“hogsheads”) of the finest tobacco leaves? This must have been worrying for whoever was in charge of the cargo, but in fact the “spoilt” shipment from Virginia was so desirable that it went like hot cakes amongst the smokers. Whatever strange process was triggered off during the voyage, the final result was so interesting that soon attempts were being made to reproduce it artificially.>>

I've never seen you so, shall I say, negative?
Uh…..what?
Your icon 😂
Oh, I get it now. I’m old and slow to catch on.🥴
My first impression of your new icon was that it resembled the "Shroud on Turin". I almost knelt and broke into prayer.
