Be on the lookout for two new "barrel aged" blends from Seattle Pipe Club: a third version of Plum Pudding, this one aged in bourbon barrels, and a third Mississippi River, this one aged in rum barrels; each comes with a barrel cube stave á la Frog Morton's Cellar. Both sound interesting; both have been highly reviewed; and both are a bit pricey.....
For those who might say, “I sprinkle peat on my tree bark before I eat it for breakfast.”
Go for the burliest of all Burleys! Tabac Manil’s La Brumeuse is a straight blend made up of only the rare Burley varietal, Semois. The tobacco is grown, harvested, cured, roasted, and packaged in the scenic Ardennes Valley of Belgium. Rustic, herbal, floral, earthy… the purest smoke you’ll find!
Last week I made an order with an on-line retailer in Germany that has a good track record of shipping to the U.S. According to tracking, the package has left Germany so now I'm waiting and watching for it to clear Customs.
@PappyJoe I’m thinking happy thoughts for you. I really hope it makes it to you with no issues. If/when it does, I will be making an order of my own.👍🏻
@RockyMountainBriar It's too, 28 days but that order I made through Esterval's in Germany has just cleared Customs and is in possession of USPS. Now, I'm at the mercy of USPS to actually do its job.
I inquired about why it was taking so long just to get to the U.S. and found out that because of the pandemic, the major shipping companies were using cargo ships instead of shipping by air. It can take two or three days to load a ship, 7 - 10 days for it to cross the Atlantic, and another two or three days to unload.
Since Maine seems to be banning the mail/online ordering of pipe tobacco, I've been looking at what's actually available locally from our local NON-tobbaconist smoke shops (since I don't have any hereabouts). There's very little in the way of most codger blends, some occasional pouches of brands I've never heard of, and lots of bags of 6oz. and pound sized roll-your-own tobaccos.
Some of the bagged tobaccos are brands that I've seen in the P&C catalog, so I don't feel too bad about giving them a try, at the least. One brand I ran across was a new-to-me one that I decided to try anyway. It's Signal Red (full flavor) and Signal Blue (smooth flavor), apparently grown, cured, and "manufactured" all on the Mohawk reservation. (The web-site also shows there's also a "Green" or menthol blend.)
I can't say, with my not-even-Greene-population-4309-Class sense of taste if it's anything special, but both Red and Blue smoke pretty well, and if I'm going to be limited to these kinds of pipe tobacco in the future, this stuff ain't bad.
@PappyJoe Let me know if you get an extra bill from customs. I bought a pipe from England and later, about a week after I received the pipe, I got an extra bill from FedEx for the import/customs fees. So far the tobacco seems to be getting through for you👍🏻
@RockyMountainBriar None of the guys I’ve talked to have had to pay Customs duties and they buy around $300 at a time. I’ll let you know if I get a letter.
I’ve bought pipes from Turkey and Italy but haven’t paid anything extra.
@PappyJoe I have bought pipes from Italy, Germany, France, Ireland, and England, Malta, and never had any extra customs charges. Only once did I get an extra customs charge, I think it was the only new pipe I bought and from a Brick & Mortar, all the rest were estate pipes.
@PappyJoe I just took a e-trip to Germany and saw the Rattray’s “Blossom Temptation” and came back to your list to see if you had ordered it as well...bingo🙂. I would appreciate your thoughts about that one when you get it open too🙂
@RockyMountainBriar Tracking this morning said the package was "In Transit." Then it showed up in this afternoon's mail No letter from Customs saying to I owed anything.

I wonder if Maine could prevent you from ordering from Germany because of international trade agreements.
The other question is where are you in Maine? Are you close enough to drive to another state for a day trip?

The new pipe may be the key. Maybe it came under a different rule.
I’m pretty excited, I can’t wait to place an order from some Indigo, along with Black Diamond, Lotus, and Belle Époque-Carte Noire.

I still can't find a definitive answer about customs duties and fees.
Blossom Temptation is intriguing because it's not listed on tobaccoreview.com. I'll let you know when I smoke some.

Excellent👍🏻
My extra customs bill came from FedEx a few days after I received the pipe package.
Is that pouch “Danish Dick” pipe tobacco?
You might want to hide that Rattray’s “Caribbean Dream” from @motie2 😬
