Great day here in Pinehurst. Weather was good. Family is doin fine. Had a great day at the dealership, sold 7 cars. Church choir practice went well. Watched a couple of episodes of The Voice with my bride and our daughter.
After tucking everyone in for the night I made my way up to the mancave.
Sittin here enjoying a glass of Blantons, watchin pipe videos on youtube and enjoyin a bowl of 3 year old Penzance in a GBD Bent Bulldog...
Just finished a bowl of Ole Shenandoah "Fuzzy Schnapps" in my Medico Sterling. Was hoping it would be the peach blend I've been searching for - but alas it's not. But even though it doesn't have a peach flavor it's a mighty fine smoke. Taste great, cool smoking, burns well, and had a great room note. But the tin note almost turned me off the moment I popped it open. It had that terrible artificial chemical smell one associates with a cheap fruit flavored aromatic, and I feared I'd hate it based on the tin note alone. But once I did the initial char light my ears perked up like my border collie. Damn this isn't half bad. Then once I got it going the smoke was fantastic. But not peach by any stretch of the imagination.
On a side note. After smoking "Fuzzy Schnapps" that terrible Latakia ghosting in the Medico pipe vanished. I could still detect the ghosting early on in the smoke but the farther along I got the less I noticed it. The blend was pretty moist and I could hear quite a bit of crackling as I smoked so I imagined there might be considerable doddle in the bottom of the bowl. There was some - but not as much as I anticipated. But it appears the doddle neutralized that pesky Latakia ghost I'd been trying to exorcise. The bowl smelled pretty good after the smoke. And just for added measure cleaned the bowl and stem once again with Decatur Stem Freshener - and the bowl smells fine. No more ghost.
