@ghostsofpompeii Just enjoyed a "stack" of Peterson's Old Dublin on top of McConnell's No. 2015 virginia flake. Very interesting and enjoyable experience. Thank you for suggesting the "stack" as an experiment. I think I will continue to experiment in the future.
Cracked open a jar of Kohlhase & Kopp Winter Edition 2015 yesterday. Good thing I bought extra when I did. This brand is no longer shipping to the United States.
Tried some Redwood in my churchwarden. Can't describe the taste, a little cherry, a little virginia, but not impressive at all. Fortunately I'm now out of it and won't be looking for more.
I really enjoyed Panama Jack's "Key Lime" so I bought a tin of "Melon" which is what I'll be smoking once I've finished typing this message. Not something I'd recommend because there is scarcely a hint of melon. I did get a flash of cantaloupe or honey dew melon midway through the bowl during one of many re-lights ... but it only lasted a puff or two during a retro-hale. Once I smoke this up I'll not be buying it again. Still love "Key Lime" though.
On my day off, on the porch in the am, trying Cornell and Diehl's Byzantium, a suggestion made by @CountrySquireRadio as a nice morning blend. I'm finding it to produce great clouds of smooth and thick smoke. I find it a bit on the mild side of mild-medium, I don't notice the spice other people do in reviews. It's nice though, and will become one of my morning blends after Early Morning Pipe finally disappears.
I wasn't that impressed with Panama Jack's Melon but last night - and later today - I plan revisiting my Neapolitan stack of Panama Jack's Melon with Ole Shenandoah's Fuzzy Schnapps and C&D Monster Mixture - The Devil Doll Edition. That trio was excellent and was much better as a layered blend than either of the blends are by themselves. Because the flavors are quite different from one another it made it more possible to really detect when one flavor changed to the next. And those blends that when by themselves didn't have that much of a peach or melon flavor - all of a sudden I could detect those flavors as one segued into the next. And by the conclusion of the bowl all the flavors blended so well together that I just have to smoke it again.
