This morning I decided to start the break in of my MM Gambler. It's loaded up with Boston's Best Cavendish and I have a cup of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe to go with it!
The stem is plastic but with a better fit and finish than their regular stems. I like the acrylic stems from Vermont Free Hand but the draw is too restricted. I got three straight cobs with acrylic stems that I've opened up, I'll have to see how they break in.
I'm okay with pumping my own gas sometimes, but other times, it would be nice to have a station around that I can pull into and have someone do it for me...especially in the winter or when it's 250 degrees outside!
@motie2 And that's is partially why the average gas prices in New Jersey is around $3.49 per gallon.
I filled up my Subaru yesterday and the price was $2.99 a gallon. There are some Shell and Exxon stations where the price is $3.09 a gallon but I don't buy gas there.
@vtgrad2003 I just wish there were full service Walmarts. I rarely see more than 2 live human check out lines when I go to Walmart. Some stores are self check only with five or six people standing around to make sure all the items get scanned.
Well I'm about half way between Davenport Ia and Des Moines cruising along with my chauffeur / wife and digging on the radio while occasionally being blasted by the aroma of hog crap. Could be worse, but the sky's are fair and the bowl of Black House I'm smoking has rendered me a hero to my beloved. Onward to Omaha
@PappyJoe, @motie2 Regular gas here is about $3.40 per gallon, and that’s when you pump it yourself. I don’t know of any self-serve stations anymore. When I filled my pickup a week or so ago (premium) it was ~$3.89/gal. It was the closest I have been to dropping a “hundy” on a tank of fuel since I bought it in 1993. It was over $90.00😳.
I’m just glad I bought a Subaru Forester last February. I’m averaging 27 mpg city/hwy. On road trips I’m getting over 36 mpg by keeping the cruise control set at the speed limit.
@PappyJoe Well, I drive 80😉 which happens to be the speed limit, and get about 8mpg on a good day. The best my truck ever got was 13mpg, and I still wouldn’t trade it for a Subaru🙂. Smart🤔 not really, but hey, I like what I like. My old 1984 Pontiac Fiero would get over 25mpg at 80, kick it back to 65 and it would get close to 40mpg. I really wish that lady in a Ford Pickup would have been watching the road instead of her phone, she turned left in front of me at an intersection with no warning and totaled my little red baby.
@RockyMountainBriar I haven't needed a full size truck with a V8 in a long time. I do have a 2016 Nissan Frontier with a big 6-cylinder for when I do need to haul stuff around and I do get 23 mpg on the highway with it. They offered me good money as a trade-in but I decided to just keep it. The main reason for going with a smaller vehicle was my wife has had both knees replaced and probably should have work done on her hips. She has a hard time getting in and out of the Frontier. The Forester is about four or five inches lower to the ground.
@PappyJoe My F150 has an Ecoboost 6-banger in it, towing capacity of 11,300 lbs, but that's all from the rear end and tranny. From everything I've studied regarding trucks, these days anyway, its "not the (engine) size that matters", its the way you 'work that thang!' LOL
As a fellow military man, I love the serial number gag. It reminds me of a line from M.A.S.H. when listing off several items Hawkeye asks “why are we backwards talking?”
For non-military folks, equipment is often listed with the item first, then any description and then the number of units. (e.g. duffel bag, olive drab, 1 each)
Cornell & Diehl Charles Towne Cobbler filled with some C&D Oak Alley and a lovely hot tea 😁
Just got both today. The cob is very comfortable and smokes great so far 🤠 The tobacco is good but I will need a few more bowls to provide comments. So far, this makes for an enjoyable evening.
Smoking one of the first 10 to 20 pipes I ever bought, less than $20 with shipping too. I bought it before really knowing anything at all about pipes, I had no idea it was as old as it is. This was a pretty nice estate pipe and it cleaned up even better. It is a four digit (2868) KBB Yello-Bole “Honey Cured Briar”. According to Yello-Bole dating guides that puts it being made between 1933-1936. It always smokes great, and I always leave the original “stinger” in place. This style of Yello-Bole scoop/spoon? “stingers” actually work, for me anyway. This evening it is loaded with C&D “Bright Virginia Ribbon”, tasty.

Wow that looks good!
Never saw a white stem before either! Cool!
"Full service" gas stations...why can't we have full service gas anymore? I'm sure there's a market for it.

But they would have to jack up the gas prices even higher to pay the $15 per hour minimum wage for a gas station attendant.

I remember this time last year gas was $1.79

WOW! I had a little red baby like that too!! Was so much fun.

A little Latakia and Orientals perk up any blend.....

If I remember correctly the labels were:
Grass, Blade of, Green and then the number.
Navy would be Grass, Blade, 1 each, green then the supply number (it was a long time ago)
Cornell & Diehl double header tonight..
