London Mixture in a Peterson 999. Spent the day enjoying G&H Dark Virginia Cavendish in various pipes while setting up a brooder to move the ducklings into from the hatcher.
Smoked some aged Peterson’s “Signature Flake” in a Pete “Sports” 2 Billiard while working out in my garage on the lathe. It was a beautiful day, I think it got up around 80F today.
I drove the 37 miles to what was my favorite B&M pre-pandemic to pick up some Linse pipe lighters and check out what pipe tobacco they had in stock. Since last June, the shop has been under the management of a cigar smoker - the two older guys who had run the shop and who were pipe smokers, were let go because of Covid.
To my surprise (NOT!), all the pipe tobacco prices were about 30 percent higher than last year. The shelves were stocked with pipe tobacco but very limited with selections. I saw maybe five types Cornell & Diehl blends, five Solani blends, maybe 10 Peterson blends and five or six Ashton's. (There were multiple tins of each blend, so in total about 100 total tins.) There were a few other brands on the shelves also. The biggest problem, in my opinion, was that 90 precent of what they had in stock were non-aromatic blends - primarily English and Virginia. In the olden days, it was more of a 60/40 split between non-aromatics and aromatic blends.
Anyway, I only bought my lighters, a pouch of Peterson Irish Dew and one tin of Peterson Irish Whiskey.
I smoked two bowls of the Irish Dew and it's not a bad smoke.
@PappyJoe I noticed that the tobacco shelves were pretty well stocked at “Stogie’s” as well, but like you mentioned it was mostly English/Latakia blends, very few aromatic’s, virgina, or va/pers.
Relaxing this afternoon with some Sutliff Sunset Rum in an reworked JOST A-1 full bent. I really enjoy this old pipe, and I love how the stain color turned out...
Today I had my first bowl since my surgery on 2/1/2021. I smoked my favorite old pipe "Caravelle Deluxe" with my favorite "Shelby Foote" mixture. It was wonderful to reunite with my old friends.
Starting off with some Lane 1-Q in a reworked estate sale noname. Haven't decided what to have to finish my day, but at least I'm off to a good start IMHO... 😁
Finished a little landscape work, then a little garden maintenance work, then a 3 (2.93) mile walk with the wife. Now for an afternoon break with some ASHTON Rainy Day in a Calebrest...
