Had some Early Morning Pipe in my Peterson Christmas 03 after chores. Brought the birds and rabbits some treats and roasted some Kenya AA. Now it's time to sit back and enjoy some Newminster Virginia Slices in a circa 1980 Ehrlich Acorn with a cup of Mexican Chiapas.
@motie2 Last night I sat on my front porch (under the roof with the wind and the rain) with my outdoor Pussy Cat waiting on Santa, and I TOO smoked what else but Sutliff Christmas Spice. With the horrible winds we had here after midnight or so I didn't think the Jolly Old Elf was going to make it. I was up a good deal of the night watching the enormous trees around the house, but thank God they stayed upright and unharmed.
Merry Christmas Gordon, and Merry Christmas to all on this site. With the Quarantine and all that is going on with this Pandemic, this will be a Christmas we will never forget. The only other time in my life that I did not go to Christmas Mass was while overseas, and I feel bad about it.
Thanks, @pwkarch Merry Christmas to you and yours, along with a happier, healthier New Year.
Last night was the worst windstorm I've heard here in seven years, but no harm, no foul. Power stayed on and nothing damaged. But the rain washed away every bit of the snow on the ground, so no white Christmas..... again.
Christmas Eve Day the report from the Smoking Shed. Fired up the wood burning stove and brought it up to 65 degrees, so I could enjoy my Jobey Dansk 2 with some Lane BCA. MERRY CHRISTMAS to all my TPL Brothers and Sisters and your Loved Ones!
Windy here as well, also no snow except the very small remnants of snow piles...in Billings, Montana...in December. I’m not sure how I feel about that, I kinda like no shoveling, no driving in snow/ice, but I would have enjoyed a white Christmas. I have not decided what to jam into a pipe today...maybe dig out the Jolly Old St. Nick wherever it is🤔
Well, I have a Pete Golden Supreme meer loaded with some 2018 C&D “Jolly Old St. Nicholas” burning for this fine Christmas day. Accompanied by an Ethiopian bean latte, no black coffee for me. I’m not tough enough to hang with the Marines🙂
I just opened this 100g tin of Greg Pease’s Inns of Court, under the Drucguer & Sons label, from 2018 or 2019. It’s not bad, but it’s not something that I can see myself smoking often - I prefer blends that are a bit sweeter. I’ve become a huge fan of blends with lots of Red Virginia over the past couple of years as that leaf really hits the ol’ sweet tooth.
I’ll probably find someone to trade this tin to, perhaps for another of Greg’s Drucquer & Sons blends. I want to try them all.
I think I’m gonna smoke some C&D Awakened Elder next, and then some SPC Plum Pudding Special Reserve.
I finally decided to smoke the inaugural bowl in this Luciano #08 C Gr2 I bought back in 2014. I have it loaded to the top with some Vauen “Himalayan Blend No.09“ it’s fruity and nutty, a tasty holiday smoke. On a positive note, it was a pristine and beautifully bare chamber with no stinking coating of any kind, my favorite type to break in.
@motie2 Yep, heard it before and have mulled it over. All I know is that the new pipes I have left the coatings in, generally smoke wet, even with the charcoal and gum arabic recipes. I have not had any troubles with bowl burnouts or charring except one brand new Peterson Calabash that I am sure had a hidden sand pit/void in the briar...and it had a bowl coating that I did not remove. Peterson replaced it under warranty, they sent me a new one which I have not had any problems with. I am staunchly on the “no bowl coating” side. As a side note, be especially wary of “refurbished” estate pipes with bowl coatings of any kind, most are there to cover charred and spider-webbed chambers.
Made some pipe mud for a recently reworked pipe. There was over a 3/8" gap between the bottom of the bowl and the airhole. Now I'm using it to do some Sutliff Christmas Spice...
@jfreedy Dang, now I have pipe envy, awesome grain AND a Dublin! I’ll let the saddle stem slide this time 😬. Very nice pipe👍🏻 Another problem with being single, no kids and unattached.....nobody to buy pipes or tobaccos for me for Christmas......I guess I will have to buy my own. It’s probably better anyway, no mistakes, I always get what I want🙂. Smoking some Vauen “Himalayan Blend No.9” in my Pete Killarney #268. I had to include the stag handled, swing guard, safety folding knife, my Christmas present to me.
Got myself a little MM cob gift. Found this mini cob in a local drug store in Cleveland. It came in a 2 pack. Tried it today with some Lane Virginia blend. It burned wonderful and I'm glad it was a short smoke...
Smoking some C&D “Espresso” in my Pete Killarney #268.....oh, oh....two bowls in the same pipe in the same day😬. What can I say, it’s one of my consistently best smoking pipes.
Metamorphosis..... Transitioning from aromatics since 2016, back to the Balkans.... like those I smoked in seminary, 1964-1973. Magnum Opus, White Knight, and Balkan Sasieni. I actually have no Barbados Plantation left..... Thinking of ordering a tin of Molto Dolce to use as a sweetener.
Just finishing my morning ritual of EMP, today in a 2020 Pete Christmas 03, along with a mug of Ethiopian Sidamo.
@motie2 I've enjoyed following your transition from flavored tobaccos back to blends. You've inspired me to move Balkan Sasieni, White Knight and Gordon Pym to the top of the next to be opened queue!

Here’s an informative article on bowl coatings.

Check out "Bare pipe" on you tube under bowl coatings. You might find it interesting...
NICE, REALLY NICE!

Sweeeeeeeeeeet grain. Smoke it in good health.

...this boy is cold!
Cool looking pipe man. Santa was good to you!!
That's awesome. Not a big bowl on it either. I actually like smaller bowls.

Not much sign of lack of sleep... you know, with the little one and all...🙂
