Can't remember the last time I smoked this pipe. It's my "Halloween" pipe (black and orange), which means I probably smoked it last Halloween 🙄 It is a Tinderbox pipe and used to be a dull brown and looked as if it was knocked against concrete walls and steel desk tops! Anyway, I stripped, rusticated and restained it black. So I'm doing some 4 year old Pipes and Cigars discontinued Out of Office series, A Few Too Many. A whiskey based blend. Really quite good... Gentle growing rain here. Not complaining, we need it... By the way, yes that is an original Erinmore Tobacco pipe tool.
Smoking some C&D “Espresso” in a RubyBark with some TinCup Whiskey and ice water on the side. It’s a little breezy this evening, but the temperature is great.
@KA9FFJ I’m not normally a fan of sandblasted pipes, but the RubyBarks catch my eye. I missed out on the Ropp Ruby pipes on SP.com. I really wanted one of the Liverpools with horn stems. There were some that had awesome ring-grain sandblasts. There is one left, but the blast pattern sucks. There were some bulldogs that look pretty cool too, a few billiards that kinda catch my eye as well. I have resisted my P.A.D. ..........So far.
Well, back in 1968 I found myself in downtown St. Louis with my eventually-to-be wife doing some shopping. I had been smoking a pipe for a couple of years, but had never had an occasion to make it to Jost pipe shop and tobacconist (sadly long since gone). Since we were right there, we decided to stop in... Quaint little shop with about 10 - 15 customers milling around. Long story short, bought myself this pipe and it will always be a reminder of those happy dating times during high school and college with my future to be wife. Doing some CB Dark in a Knute freehand from Denmark (Jost pipe shop)...
@motie2 Strange, I was honestly surprised seeing the just average total score it received. It (IMO) deserves much more than that. It has a sweet aroma from the cavendish, with the body of the cube cut burley, and the complexity of the smoky latakia. The three work together beautifully, creating a pleasing aromatic English crossover.
Well, taking a cue from @jfreedy, I finally got around to firing up this straight system Pete Commemorative Patent No.12393 for “System Day”. Smoking some C&D “Espresso” and drinking some Mickey D’s iced tea. The stiff breeze this evening is definitely stoking this one up, along with the wild-land fires around here I’m sure. Not good, the prairies and forests are drier than a popcorn fart around here. On another note, I saw another pipe smoker in the wild today. He was in a car ahead and to the right of me at a red light. He was in the process of loading and lighting his pipe. He got-er-done before the light turned green. I’m sure he was an old hand at it. Sadly I didn’t get to convey my appreciation of the finer aspects of pipe smoking to him.
This is a bin pipe I bought in the late 80's or early 90's. It has had an unusual life. One MLK Holiday weekend in the mid 90"s, a friend and I went to his lake cabin in Minnesota to ice fish. I had some insulated coveralls with zippered pockets. The pipe in one and a pouch of tobac in the other. When I got home I put the coveralls in the washing machine. I forgot to empty the pockets. The tobac was ruined and I had to heat the bit to tighten and refit. The pipe was an OK smoker before the wash, but afterwards it has been an outstanding smoker, not to mention, a survivor.
@pipeman83; Well, I dried out my tin of Field and Stream and gave it another try. I sipped it very slow, just enough to keep it lit. It was like a chained dog. It wanted to bite, but just couldn't get to me. My final thought on this blend is that I really just don't like the taste.

I'll try it again, maybe I smoked it to fast or it was too wet. Thanks for letting me know.

NeVer understood why anyone would smoke something they don’t like when there are so many - so very many - other blends available.
When I reject a blend after a bowl or two I send it on to a TPL brother.
”Smoke what you like and like what you smoke,” indeed! 👍👍
