Cracked open a tin ov Vauen Himalaya Blend No. 9 yesterday. It's a black cavendish/virginia blend flavored with cherry, fruit, citrus and some other unlisted flavors. I think one of them must be vanilla. Even with all these flavors, its not a clumpy, overly moist blend but it does require about five or 10 minutes of drying before smoking.
I get the fruit notes when smoking but I don't find it overly sweet. The virginias are barely noticeable in the background but adds a slight tang or dried hay note which complements the flavors.
Semper fi....Sutliff Christmas Spice is one of my five top blends to smoke. I am going to have to order some more as i am down to about 1 1/4 lbs.or so. Another really good Sutliff Blend is the Black Cordial, but then again almost any Sutliff blend makes me happy. I actually have approx. at minimum 4 ounces or so of each of their blends (I even smoked Mixture 79 this past week). Hand Salute Marine.
I just finished putting the finishing touches on an estate Peterson I acquired recently.
I was smoking some C&D “Espresso” again, this time in a Yello-Bole Imperial Zulu. Yes, it still has the original “scoop stinger” in it. I don’t care, this particular design of stinger works for me (if it is installed right side up), not that this tobacco burns wet anyway. It is one of my favorite work pipes. It is one of the first estate pipes I made a new stem for and chamfered the rim. I like nose warmers, so it got a short stem, and I like the look of a chamfered rim. I am currently sitting on the front porch smoking the last half of the bowl. I know I have mentioned it before, but dang I enjoy this tobacco. If you like aromatics like BCA and the like, I highly recommend it.
Back in the garage after a storm ripped through the Midwest on Monday and took out my power for most of the week. I’m glad to be back puffing a pipe. C&D’s OJK White in my Savinelli Lovat.
@mapletop excellent. You're going to love it. Hint: after you make the OF, load up your favorite tobacco in your best pipe and grab a coaster. Go to your favorite sanctuary smoking place. Then, sit with your OF and light up. Make your first draw heavy then grab your OF and blow all the frag smoke in the glass and quickly cover with the coaster. Set it back down for a few minutes. When ready, take the first sip while inhaling the aroma and enjoy this perfect cocktail.
@thebadgerpiper; I have been cleaning up after the storm and was without power for 4 days (no phone, internet, etc.). What an adventure, with the street construction, the shutdown and now the storm damage, my street looks like a war zone. I started insulin injections for my diabetes by candle light, not all that romantic. Me pipes have been my solace during it all. I fully expect a swarm of locusts to be coming next. Hell...bring it!!
@opipeman Wow, it got you pretty good, too. Me and my neighbors got off unscathed other than what we lost in the fridge. My wife and I stayed at a hotel and were able to save most of our stuff from the freezer. It wasn’t fun, but I can’t complain.
It was links day today. Absolutely beautiful day except for the mosquitoes. Thankful for "OFF". Kept all but 2 or 3 at bay... Did the last of my RLP-6 (2 bowls) in my trustworthy MM Cob. IMHO, cobs are great pipes, especially for knocking around in a golf cart...

Unfortunately, it's not making me feel any cooler...
