Meh. The reviews all talk about lime and citrus, but to me, there's not much to the blend. I'd rather smoke most anything else..... Perhaps it'll blend with something else.
Sillem's Black is compared at Tobaccoreviews.com to my new fave, C&D's Captain Bob's Blend, but the Blau/Blue? As Jerry Seinfeld would say, "Not so much."
Are those Linse lighters refillable?
No, sir. They are basically as described: "BICs for pipes."
@RockyMountainBriar sorry to hear that. If the draft hole is too tight that might explain a lot of things. Good luck in your troubleshooting endeavours.
@motie2 Thanks for the heads-up on Sillem’s Blue. I have similar thoughts on both the Red and Green. It’s not terrible, but I won’t be purchasing more.
@mfresa I reamed out and cleaned the nasty bowl coating out of that Sillem’s pipe, and drilled the airway to 4mm. I think it was probably 3.5mm-4mm but that nasty coating gummed up the airway and made it rough. It was not clogged, but probably had some turbulent and restricted airflow. I also partially drilled the 9mm adapter with a tapered 9/64” drill to give it a more open funnel shape. I also chamfered the shank end of the adapter. I fired it up with the Sillem’s “Green” again right from the jar (no extra dry time). It still smoked a bit wet, but it was much improved. Maybe after the bare briar gets a bit of cake it will improve more. That Sillem’s tobacco was still tough to get lit well and keep lit? Maybe it has some asbestos in it🤔
Since I had the day off today, I thought I'd take advantage of the daylight and warmer temperatures with a smoke outside. Had a bowl of C&D's Blockade Runner in my Ben Wade Canadian.
I did not have time to “partake” last night, so I have rubbed out some of the homegrown and homemade plug tobacco that I sliced last night to let it dry a bit. That slicer has a fine cut/shag cut. I’m sure it was meant for cigarette tobacco mainly. I was hoping the cut would have been easily adjustable so I could slice some into a Japanese Kizami cut (hair fine), but that would require changing the gear drive feed mechanism. That is not worth my time. Just waiting for a little dry time to load it in an old WDC Wellington.
Finally got around to smoking my homegrown in this old WDC. The baccy is still a little rough around the edges even after a year of aging, but it is burning well and tastes and smells like tobacco rather than burning leaves.
Doing some 2 1/2 year aged SWR in a T. Cristiano Metamorfosi. Aging this blend has definitely made it sweeter than right off the shelf buy and smoke...
Every year I seem to make the same resolution and usually stick with it for almost two months. So far this year, I am smoking my "gumbo" blend I make from the remains of tins I've been smoking and of blends I don't particularly like. It has evened out over the year and has become a very nice smoke.
Just had about a half oz. each of Creme Brulee and Molto Dolce. Decided to combine the two into one jar after a thorough mixing. Grabbed my extended stemmed Hilson Viva 201 and loaded it up. Should have done this 50/50 blend a long time ago. It is EXCELLENT! Doesn't hurt to have a little Cranberry wine to complete the combo...😏
Tonight in honor of Sherlock Holmes birthday I'll be smoking my special blend "Mrs. Hudson's 221B Bakery Blend". And I'll be smoking it in my Brebbia Calabash. If that tin of Peterson Sherlock Holmes wasn't empty I'd be smoking that instead.

How was the Sillem’s “Blue”?

@motie2
Did you have any trouble getting/keeping that Sillem’s lit?
No trouble getting it lit/keeping it lit, and this was after rehydrating the tobacco, which came from the tin, extra crispy.....
But, OTOH, no real reason to smoke anymore of it....
Thanks Secret Santa...
Savinelli... great minds think alike @pipeman83 😏

I have the same practice: I call it my Frankenblend Melange; mostly a variety of aromatic left-overs and a healthy amount of English/Latakias.
