I went out of my league for sure. I smoked a bowl of "Frankenblend" tobacco which came to me as a good idea. I mixed Scottys' Butternut Burley with pure Blending Perique.....WOW, just WOW. I enlisted a great old Briar no name pipe that has served me well for many, many years. I was looking as i normally due for a nice 'peppery" note and enlisted the Perique for that experiment. I have to say, it did not give up any peppery notes, but what a great tasting mix. I did have some "stewed fruit" type notes that went very well with the SBB which i am enjoy so much as a stand alone blend. There was not a single bite or nibble in the bowl. I think the Perique sort of rounded the edges of the Butternut Burley, if not becomming the basic flavor. The mix was close to 50/50, so my next mission will be adjusting the component ratios and see where that goes. I have also thought already of other blends to either add to this concoction, or to just add some perique to anothere blend.
Gentlemen Sad to report that Peretti Coffee Blend does NOT taste like coffee.....not even alittle bit. A decent non discript burley taste, lots of lights, but no coffee.
In a mood for a chocolate blend so I created another Frankenblend adding equal amounts of Russ' Monthly Blend "Fudge Cake", "Snow Drift" (which has a flavor of hot cocoa), and Sutliff Chocolate Mousse. My wife recently bought a chocolate scented candle ... and I think my tobacco blend has a better room note.
Taste great as well. With none of that diabetic guilt that goes with enjoying chocolate.
<<Digby pipes were made by GBD as a second line for pipes with too many flaws to carry the primary brand. They appeared, in the 1976 catalog, in either a smooth walnut finish or a dark sandblast. Digby pipes were openly sold as being made "By the Makers of the Famous GBD.". >>
I'm smoking Balkan by Brebbia in my bent billiard sand blast italian. It seems appropriate since they are running the 1931 Universal production of Dracula on Svengoolie.
@jfreedy , IMHO the stoved Virginia takes some of the spice/harshness out of the Turkish tobacco used in the John Cotton blend. But, I'm partial to stoved virginias, mainly because they add a sweet note to whatever you're smoking. I tend to like deep, sweeter Virginias. Just my tastes...
Lane "Dark Red" in a (ready for this?), a 54 year old Missouri Meershaum Corn Cob Pipe (second pipe I ever bought, in 1965, yeah I am old). STILL smokes so well. I LOVE my Cobs.
I am guessing it must be somewhat of a record........
😉 You are right @Londy3, some of the wives and girlfriends were there too. Most were hunkered down inside. It was about 50 degrees maybe cooler and raining off and on with a deck wafting of cigar and pipe smoke. The kids were inside playing video games as well....weenies.....kids these days🤨 As far as a smokeless fire pit, it is pretty nice, but I like to throw trash in the fire....and apparently it is frowned upon in this establishment. I won’t complain though, excellent free food and camaraderie the host Adam (red-bearded gnome in the center) provided quite the shindig👍🏻😀. I provided a backup bottle of our favorite (for the money) bourbon, a 1.75l of Makers Mark, and while I was being set up with a rocks glass of ice, I chugged a fifth and polished it off straight away. Ok.....there was less than an ounce left, I’m not that “hardcore”😬
@RockyMountainBriar..ha ha so funny. Looked like a good time and like my kind of folks to hang with. You will have to check out my bourbon tasting we do here. I will post it in the "what are you drinking while smoking your pipe" thread.
I'm sitting out back enjoying the last of the summer weather with a bowl of Prince Albert in a Dr Grabow Grand Duke. Fall weather is supposed to arrive next week so I'm enjoying another shoe optional evening.
Fourth quarter starts in a couple of weeks weeks and there won't be time for many evenings like this .
Thank you Zippo lighter company for making smoking in the wind possible. It's too windy for matches but my Zippo has no problems.
I'm with you @Londy3. I've got three Zippos and they all serve me well.
I'm finishing off the evening with some Maltese Falcon in another one of my Italian basket pipes. This one holds a huge amount of tobacco. It was a solid hours smoke. I'm trying to understand the difference between Cyprian latakia and the Syrian latakia used on the Balkan by Brebbia. This may take more comparisons.
@Ron191 ~ I grew up in Bradford, PA. Home Of the Zippo lighter. Not a big town but half of the residents work at Zippo I think. I do love my Zippo lighters!

When it come to aromatics, I’d try a Sutliff bulk blend.
Nice looking pipe.
