I did a little woodworking with the milling machine last night. It is only pine, but I thought I would start out easy…and inexpensive…in case I screw it up. I will try some hardwoods at some point, maybe some aluminum too🙂
@mapletop I wanted the curved internal edge and I was too lazy to change the bit🙂. I could have went right to the fly-cutter or a large end-mill, but I was a bit concerned with splintering and I was having fun “driving around”, getting use to the directions of the table/hand wheel manipulation. I may decide to use an end-mill anyway, the fly cutter didn’t get into the corners. I’m just kinda playing around, getting use to it. If I had the mill CNC’d, those wood trays would pop out of there by the dozen🙂 I forgot to get the pictures after the fly-cutter operation…it was late.
No, not so far. She mostly does landscapes and still lifes, sells a few, has exhibited in national level shows, won awards, and will soon be mentioned in a pastels magazine article.
@motie2 Very impressive! After my photography days I opened a small Gallery and Frame shop. She would have been welcome to exhibit. As a Bostonian I spent many rainy afternoons in the Museum of Fine Arts hanging out mainly in the Impressionist Gallery.
My youngest niece is an artist. She has sold several of her works (for way more money than I would ever pay…buy hey). She has a website at bunnykartist.com. I’m know zero about art and the paintings are strange to me, but my mind does not work in the ways of that type of art. I’m more for useable works of art/engineering.
@Londy3 thanks. I'm still trying to figure out a way to do some metal work on some pipes. Wouldn't mind making some gold or silver stem bands with hand engraving on them.
@Zouave If you ever start spinning silver “bullet” end caps, let me know. I know a guy with an old WDC that has a corroded and useless nickel one that needs replacing😉 I tried it on my lathe…I need a mentor, my skills, or lack thereof, didn’t cut it.
@Zouave I think the nickel ones are mostly stamped now. The WDC I have that is shot is actually plated brass and it is soldered together. The older Petersons are also soldered. The new Peterson’s are spun to fit each pipe individually. There is a Peterson youtube video showing their silversmith making them at the factory.
After the Egg Nog cookies, I made my famous Fruit Cake cookies. Where Fruit Cake is often dense and dry, these are moist and flavorful, almost like spice cookies.
Thanks for the recipe @PappyJoe, they sound delicious😋. I will have to make some. The fruit cake cookies look good too. I was one of the few people in my family that actually likes fruit cake.

Awesome work! Is there a portrait of a preacher smoking a pipe?

I took a look at your niece’s website.
Very cool style. I like it.
Funny you say that…I think quite a few of the ones she sold did go into offices.
Wow, very nice work. Impressive!
in re: your painting, above, what medium?
