I whipped up a batch of beef and vegetables in the slow cooker yesterday. I’m not sure what to call it, pot roast, vegetable beef soup, beef stew? Tasty😋. It was just getting started in this pic.
@Londy3 It was a 3 1/2 pound hen that I sprinkled with salt, pepper and home made paprika and slow roasted at 300° along with the butternut for just under 2 hours.
@RockyMountainBriar We grew mostly Poblanos with some Thai Hot, Serano, Jalapeno and possibly a Habanero plant. I planted and watered and my wife took it from there. As they ripened she would pick, trim up and deseed the peppers then dehydrate them and store them in bowls. When the growing season ended and everything she needed was dryed she ground and combined the bounty and jarred the result. About half have been given away and the rest will carry us until the next harvest.
I have finished one of my contributions to our family Turkey Day Celebration….well, I hope it’s turkey and not ham🤔. I like ham, but I love turkey😋. My rendition of Deviled Eggs, it’s my normal filling recipe, but I added some lightly floured and deep fried jalapeño or serrano chips and smoked paprika for garnish and that extra devilish kick😉. I was also nominated to bring the mashed potatoes. I decided to roast, instead of boil, the blend of Idaho Gold and Idaho Russets before mashing. I cook often, and I am a pretty good cook, but I think this maybe only the second or third time I have made mashed potatoes from whole potatoes. I actually prefer Idahoan dehydrated mashed potatoes most of the time….and they are quick and easy😋
@Balisong Funny, I don’t eat hard boiled eggs much either. I also don’t use ketchup generally, however, hard boiled eggs dipped in ketchup are great. Add a bit of hot-sauce to the ketchup, even better. That was a culinary choice I learned from my father🙂
Tonight is a Boboli crust topped with my homemade pizza sauce, mozzarella, provolone, mushrooms sautéed in butter with some tarragon/garlic powder/salt/pepper, fresh jalapeños, ham slices, pepperoni, and a generous sprinkling of red pepper flakes in the cheese layer. My beverage is some hot Lapsang souchong tea. Its smokiness reminds me of Dark Fired Kentucky. I’m going for a bowl of some G.L. Pease “Jackknife Plug” in my MM “Marcus” after that fine dinner. The Dark Fired Kentucky should pair well with my tea.
Tonight’s dinner was a perfectly grilled Turkey and Cheese sandwich with a dusting of “Alpine Touch”, some pickled Hot (spicy hot) Garden Mix and some green olives. I also had a couple of beverages, a cold soda with lemon and a mug of hot Lipton tea…..with a “splash” 😉 of Evan Williams Bourbon.
Tonight Lynda made a meal that was on the table at family gatherings when I was young but I never had the desire to try.
Pizza Gaina It has a few other names but is simply a meat & cheese pie. Lynda put on her own spin and made a gluten-free crust, diced smoked ham steak and a blend of provolone, Parmigiano, mozzarella and Romano cheeses. After dinner I had GLP Abingdon in a Rob Roy and a rum and apple cider spritzer.
@Zouave and @opipeman It came out absolutely delicious! This morning I suggested precooking duck legs and thighs in an Italian spiced tomatoes and using the cooked meat for the filling and saving the flavored sauce as a topping or pasta side.
@Londy3 Looks delicious! Growing up Christmas eve was an Italian feast of fish of my grandfather's choosing. He was from Foggia. I remember calamari, eel and smells as the regulars but being on the young end of 19 grandchildren, from his 5 children and their spouses it was a struggle to get to the table!

After chicken and squash for dinner, dessert is GLP Abingdon in a Rob Roy and Sweet Vermouth.
Nice brother! How did you cook the chicken?

You done good.
Yummie
What is “homemade” paprika? You grew the paprika peppers/blend, harvested, and dried it, and ground it?

Into the oven at 300° for 4 1/2 hours!
Looks awesome! I hate hard boiled eggs but absolutely love deviled eggs.

Looks fantastic
I knew there was a reason why I preferred mezcal over tequila.
Hey, nice knife in your previous post 😉

I agree. That really makes my mouth water. The Pizza Gaina looks great too.

What size bowl did you use?
😂🤣
Appetizer, fried calamari paired with amazing Höpler Grüner Veltliner, 2022 white wine.
The main course, seafood chowder, southern Italian style 🤌
