This is a quote from Tiger Woods' Hall of Fame induction, reiterating what his father used to tell him. I wish my students, or any of the "current" generation took the same view.
“If you don’t go out there and put in the work, you don’t go out and put in the effort, one, you’re not going to get the results,” Woods said. “But two, and more importantly, you don’t deserve it. You need to earn it. So that defined my upbringing. That defined my career.”
Brothers and Sisters; TPL just informed me that I have Earned THE SECOND ANNIVERSARY BADGE. They didn't mention anything about an award ceremony. I suppose it was cancelled due to COVID. Anyway, thanks for putting up with me for two whole years.
@RockyMountainBriar; If the sixth year is meaningless, then so is the second year. I will not go to the award ceremony out of protest. Brothers are Brothers!
I think there was initially a purpose behind earning the badges but the TPL people in charge of the forum - and who could be found on here daily - moved on to other positions. Now it's more like, "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!"
I call BS! This is another case of a “word” that dictionaries include because of woke opinion. It is not proper to say “I am adulting today” it’s simply not.
@vtgrad2003 You're right of course, I first became aware of that slang after my daughter had purchased her first home last year and lamented about the difficulties of the learning curve as it relates to living life and dealing with rules, bureaucracy, insurance, finance, and maintenance etc.....
I asked her what kind of cheese she wanted to go with her whine and told her to buck up and that I did not raise her to be a victim, She gets it, but the current culture promotes the worst in these youngsters.
To be honest my daughter is tough as nails, so much so that my wife has admonished me for that part of her upbringing, but when that sort of stuff bleeds into her lexicon I am adamant about nixing it
Since when did life's "Basic" challenges become so onerous; the gift of problems are the solutions, the associated learning and self reliance.

Good stuff.
More of an Authoritarian definition!

If you have to ask what adulting is.......
then you are not one.
So what the hell is a "woke opinion?" My opinions were the same when I woke up this morning as they were when I fell asleep last night!
It is a perfectly good word as long as you use the proper amount of derision or sarcasm with it.
