@Londy3 Sad, I was just trying to remember the last time I fired the Python Hunter…it’s gotta be 20 years. I think I have put maybe a hundred rounds through it since I bought it back in 1993? Probably the demise of that whitetail now that I think about it.
@Londy3 A BBQ like that would likely be a headline in the next days' Raleigh News and Observer! "Seven stoned and drunk pipe smokers at BBQ shoot each other--there were no survivors"
Has anyone shot a 454 Casull? Here is an image to show you the Casull in comparison to other standard rounds. I'm not going to even discuss the Smith and Wesson 500 Magnum, it's just ridiculous
The largest handgun round I have fired is .50AE out of a Desert Eagle. Which is the largest centerfire cartridge of any magazine-fed, self-loading pistol. My 44 Mag 300 Grain SoftPoint hand loaded “Bear Rounds” out of my 6.5” 629 Classic DX revolver bucks a little more. I run the smallish wood combat grips so no “forgiving” rubber recoil cushion. It’s a much sharper recoil in the Smith than in my heavier, gas operated, rotating bolt .44 IMI Desert Eagle.
@RockyMountainBriar No. The Casull doesn't beat the baddest beast in the world, 500 cal. I did mention that " I'm not going to even discuss the Smith and Wesson 500 Magnum, it's just ridiculous"
@Londy3 Well since you asked, yes I have shot a 454 Casull, in fact I own one, its a beast for sure, it more aptly should be called the hand numb-er because after about the fifth round well you get the idea. Note the duel locks on the cylinder
I used to travel to Alaska fairly frequently to visit my younger brother, fishing and hunting back in the 90's and 2000's. He lives on the last Island that forms the inside passage just 20-40 miles west of Juneau.
He resides in a small settlement called Tenakee Springs on Chichagof Island. Chichagof island has the highest population of bears per square mile on the planet.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chichagof_Island
It seemed unwise not to have a firearm that I could carry all the time, The 454 was the biggest hand gun cartridge at the time so it was the only realistic choice. Those trips were some of the most fun I have ever had (if you an outdoors man), very rustic living though, probably not suitable for most western women. I have taken a couple of white tail with it along with a coyote that was chasing the deer around and pissed me off.
@mapletop Wow man, that's freaking awesome 😎 That sure is a beast and probably difficult to carry I would think. I think it's so cool you have one. Great pictures too. Very sexy gun for sure.
@vtgrad2003 Yeah, the S&W 500 is the most powerful production handgun in the world. I was just saying it's so massive it's ridiculous to even talk about 🤪
@Londy3 It is for sure; I've often felt tempted to get one, but even my open-air gun range doesn't allow them. Once my wife and I sell our house in a few years and build one out on some more land where I can have my own gun range, I'll probably get one then.
Well if you want to go to the extreme there are some idiots who have created both a .500 and .600 nitro express hand guns.
If your unfamiliar with these cartridges, they have been around for a very long time and were used for hunting big game in Africa, used in double rifles.
A standard weight .600 nitro express round weight 900 grains or a little over 2 ounces, a 50 cal military ammo is usually between 600 and 750 grains for comparison

Thanks so much man😉👍
Ahh…ok, a sack lock😳
1791 Gunleather for both my 637 and 686. Great quality and good value all around 😁

Tell ya what, let's have a shootfest and after some bourbon, bacon and barbecue to discuss these great firearms? 💥💥💥
And smoke a few bowls 😁

That's why we shoot first and drink after 😉
460 Smith & Wesson is the most powerful revolver cartridge in the world.
A little demo
Cool chart! I use wadcutters in my 38, I wonder what that exit wound would look like.
The 460 beats the 500??? That does not seem right.
Ahh, just watched Hickock 45 video… most powerful .45 Caliber. 500 is still king I believe.

Because it is.
Those are sweet. Gives me an idea what to do with my 50 cal cases 😁
Most powerful “production” handgun. I think there may be some larger ones, but only one-offs/prototypes?
Thank you for the qualification--I meant to put that in my post but didn't. Yes, "production" handgun is correct.
Wow man, that's freaking awesome 😎
