Nothing is more intrinsically personal as one's taste in music. As a sound designer for theater, a former personality on public and commercial radio, and a collector of vintage audio and vinyl, I have exposed myself to a variety of genres. My music collection reflects that. It is a large one by most standards. I can't say I have a specific choice when smoking, it could be anything from pop standards to show music to pop and country from the forties to the now. I have three music systems ranging from a simple CD/Cassette and turntable in my office, to a more sophisticaed system in the living room, to a 1962 Magnavox Imperial console in my dining room. So you see, what I listen to has a bearing on what I listen to music on. My main system has a low-power FM transmitter hooked to it, so I can have the same music in every room in the house. Excellent for parties, no? Old 78's sound magnificent on the console. The office doubles as a studio where I build theater soundtracks and digitize music, so everything sounds pretty good there. The main system features more high-end equipment where I play most of my crucial vinyl and tapes of either cassette or open reel. Did I mention I can smoke nearly everywhere in the house? The bedroom is off limits by the One That Must Be Obeyed, but the rest is fair game. As a guest in my home, you'd be asked what kind of music you enjoy. Chances are I would have some of that. We would sity back, have a smoke and a libation and listen to our heart's content.
@Briarbear; I like Old time Country, Johnny, Waylon, Willie, George, Don Williams, the Oaks, the Statlers, Loretta, Tammy, and the like. Also Delbert, BB King, blues in general. Old time Rock and Roll (50's). A little of the Stones.
I still often listen to bagpipe bands while enjoying my pipe. I'll even listen to the band I'm learning under while working and puffing away.
Here's a performance they did last month at the church we practice at. I even possibly make an appearance in this one, though not with my pipes, and not in uniform.
Accompanying a snowy, windy day with "The Gentle Side of John Coltrane." It includes "My One and Only Love" featuring Johnny Hartman and "In a Sentimental Mood" with Duke Ellington. Next up the album "My Favorite Things."
@Zouave; Your a man after me own heart. The only thing that might be better is to add a couple of fingers of the Irish or "take my sugar to tea". See if you can get that tune out of your head anytime soon?
In recent week's I've gotten about three CDs that were recorded during the pandemic ... when the musicians were file sharing, writing tunes in various locations from one another and assembling the material via computer. In all three cases the music is excellent - and you'd never know the bands were not in the recording studio at the same time. Technology is amazing. The albums were from Jethro Tull "The Zealot Gene", The Flower Kings "By Royal Decree, and Marillion "An Hour Before It's Dark". Both the Marillion and Flower Kings were somewhat based around the over all experience of living during a pandemic.
One of the Marillion tunes "Murder Machine" was pretty potent, with lyrics like "I put my arms around her - and killed her with love".

Didn’t say, “What’’s in the pipe that he’s smoking?”
Tee-hee: for all of the Deadheads out there…..
I like the swag of that
But, sometimes pipe smoking gives one locomotive breath, no?
Late night pipe, with some Nougat in my small Ropp Cutty, listening to some Jazz. God damn this lady has one hell of a voice.
You ain't lying, Brother.

Been digging this band lately.
That is an outstanding group. I never heard of them before. Thanks for posting, Brother!
Nathaniel Puts me in mind of John Belushi of the Blues brothers.
