@motie2, this is the reason I’ve stayed out of the current Good & Welfare conversation. I agree with you, this is supposed to be about pipe smoking. Their are plenty of other forums available for other topics that create hard feelings.
Has anyone heard from @Michael308 ? He and his wife were going through a rough patch last year. Police Officers have a special place in my heart, and I hope they are well..
For some among us, Thanksgiving can be a conflicted time, especially for those who have suffered a loss during the past year. So, we thank God for their lives: for the time we had them with us; for the memories we will always cherish.
In the rising of the sun and in its going down,
we remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter,
we remember them.
In the opening of buds and in the rebirth of spring,
we remember them.
In the blueness of the sky and the warmth of the summer,
we remember them.
In the rustling of leaves and in the beauty of autumn,
we remember them.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends,
we remember them.
So long as we live, they too shall live - now a part of us -
<< A few months ago, my son told me his friend was making extra money by posting fake reviews online. It turns out there are websites and Facebook groups where sellers solicit people to post postive reviews in exchange for cash or free merchandise.>>
Today I had that chance to play my pipes with my pipe band as we led Santa in for a local town’s Christmas celebration. It was my first parade, and while I haven’t earned my kilt yet, it felt good playing with my band.
Fox News Flash! Local Scottish band plays in parade! While not all band members have earned their kilts, this man shows off his recent purchase from Duluth Trading!
Being half Scottish myself, can't wait to see the full outfit when you do earn it ! You should post some recordings of your band...
Funny you should mention the Duluth Trading Company. I was looking at their thermal waffle union suit today for some additional warmth for when I'm out in the cold upper Illinois winters with my pipe (the non-bag kind).
I'm happy to oblige the request. Here's the competition portion of my band at their one and only game this year (they got 3rd place in their division). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLQAR4kaiPQ
And here is their youtube page with many of their videos:
@thebadgerpiper Frigging awesome, I heard them play before in Oak Brook, the tone of the drones was perfect, you are in great company, and a wish of great luck on you endeavor to be a piper.
Almost had A first generation Scotsman (married to a Japanese woman) for a father in-law, he played the pipes and was one hell of a man,
And me, well, I am part scotch of the Rankin clan ( virtually nonexistent any more) and I really like to drink scotch, well ,bourbon too, and then there's..... , so cheers and I can't wait to hear you play Scotland the brave.
figured I would toss my kilt in the ring. Here I am years ago, alot younger, alot less grey and a few pounds thinner on my wedding day. When people ask "who wears the pants in your house?" I can literally say "who do you think? I didn't even wear pants to my own wedding!"
@Zouave That's awesome! I wish I had worn one at my wedding, but I wasn't into the pipes at that time.
@mapletop I couldn't ask to be part of a better band. We have some dates lined up in St. Charles for St. Patricks day. We'll be playing on the street. If you stop by, I'd be happy to chat (and maybe have a pipe as well). Thanks for sharing your background, too. I have a little Scotch in me, but my clan isn't a big one (Waugh), and from what I understand they didn't wear kilts, and only made a family tartan back in 2009. They went to Ireland for a bit before moving to the US. My wife on the other hand is a Stuart, and our band wears her clan's tartan.
If I wore a skirt up here in the freezing cold, my nickname would be ”tinkle balls”. Especially since the tradition/rumor is that, “going commando”, is the norm for skirt wearing men😬
@RockyMountainBriar commando is the order of the day. But the great response to give when some smart ass guy inevitably asks "hey, what do you have under that thing?" You respond by saying... "Your wife's lipstick" That's gives you about 5 seconds to run like hell or get ready for a dust up.

@Michael308 was going through some rough times. I hope he spots our query and checks in...

As long as it wasn't end over end all is good! What did you get?
What did I get?
Regret, for not going outside and stopping the guy. ,BTW, I didn’t recognize the music the truck played, but we could hear it inside the house..
Umm, so if you weren't wearing a kilt, umm...well...umm.

One I earn my kilt, I will absolutely post a pic fully kitted up.
Outstanding! Looking forward to the post.
