Now my younger sister wants me to fly out for a visit to Edwards, WA. Being in Maine, I don't have a "real-ID" in the first place, so I can't fly. Haven't been in a plane since 8 days before 911, and that trip sucked big time in both directions. Not having slept through all of the past dozen years, I've noticed from the news how shittily the airlines are treating their passengers, and I'm not too eager to subject myself to any of that abuse. Then there's the fraud called 'TSA' to cope with.
But the real reason, I can't see why I need to subject them to the presence of someone like me who has been a total outsider from the family for 40-odd years. I've never felt comfortable at all during my rare visits with any of them, as there isn't any niche for me to fit into any more. I kept finding myself just sitting patiently while conversation swirled past me about people and events I've never heard of go on, waiting for anything addressed to me that I might be able to respond to.
I've tried to express some of this to her, but she still wants me to come.
@AnantaAndroscoggin; I know I have no incite into your family relationships and its none of my business, but I'll just throw out this thought. Maybe she is extending an "Olive Branch".

I’m blessed with awesome family. I get along well with both of my brothers and both of my sisters. Actually with the extended families on both sides as well. Man I’m glad I have so many siblings. I think being an only child would suck.

If I were speaking to Jacob right now, I would say, "We've always loved the story of your ladder, with the angels going up and down." (Once, when I was a child, I even dreamed I saw it. I was in a field, and the clouds parted, and there it was. It looked like a long crowded highway. Angels were going up and angels were going down. But it was only a dream.) Twenty years ago, we were not dreaming, and we saw it. We saw the ladder -- its silver poles and rungs of glass -- and we saw the angels falling down. And they were so fast and fleeting. And they were so beautiful and terrible. And we saw in a cloud of smoke and ash, thousands of angels ascending, rising up to heaven. And if I could, I would ask Jacob if he wishes he could forget the vision of his ladder, the way we wish we could forget ours.

Their last, important, can’t miss, “security” update on my older iPad hosed it. Those dirty so-and-so’s throttled back the processor speed under the guise of saving battery life. It was working fine, plus, how much sense does it make to throttle back processor speed if the battery is not lasting as long. If anything, it needs to run faster to get stuff done before the battery dies. Not to mention, when plugged into wall power, it should not have been throttled back at all and it was. Those dirty $#@&*%#&%#$&’s made it nearly worthless at that point even with a fully charged battery. I couldn’t get anything done. It still steams my clams. It was a forced upgrade of a perfectly good device at that time. Luckily, a friend gave me one of his old used ones…this one, and it still works great….so far. Next thing you know, my iPad will need another “security booster”…then another, until it dies like the old one. Sound familiar🤔. Damn money grubbing bastards.

Glad to hear you and yours are ok. Sorry to hear about your daughter's dilemma...
Hoping for a quick and favorable resolution...
Our hearts go out to you. May her memory be a blessing.
Sorry for your loss sir.

I'm also on the outside of my family. Do what's best for you, the rest of the family will deal with life from their own perspective.
Very sorry to hear about your loss. My God bring you and your family peace and strength at this time.
Or maybe after things settle a bit, invite her out to see you instead?
Spoken like a pro. Perfect, thank you.
Figured I'd give a picture update of my son. It's hard to believe his first birthday is only weeks away.
Fantastic Greg!!! He's so cute.
(Good thing the child looks like his mother……) 🤣
There was no blood.
Just gray dust that hung in the air for days,
Coating everything for a mile around.
The blood came later,
Rivers of it,
Oceans of it,
Beating redly round the world.
