@AnantaAndroscoggin In the Corps (I'm sure others had it too) we had a saying that, " expect the worst, and you'll never be disappointed ". Sorry to say that holds true more than we'd like... But I'm hoping your situation improves...
@AnantaAndroscoggin I don't know how it is where you live but I'm beginning to think there is an expiration date on the soil where I live. We've begun seeing more and more mature oak trees simply toppling over in the woods around our house. Big mature trees toppling over even in the slightest windstorm under 30 to 40 MPH wind gusts. And surprisingly the root systems seem to be no longer than the distance from my my hand to elbow. You'd assume the roots to a tree that can tower over 100 feet would be dug into the earth much deeper. But in the woods where I live you can see dozens of full grown oak trees that have simply toppled over in the past two years - and in all cases there are barely any roots. The tree that fell ob my house only left a hole deep enough to go to about my shin in I put my foot in the hole where the tree once stood.
I think all the minerals in the soil have been depleted, no longer supplying the trees with the nutrients to keep them alive. And another thing that's changed is the water table, which also has a lot to do with the trees falling over.
The guy that built his home next door to me originally wanted to purchase the lot at the end of the street but the water table was too high and they dug down about two feet before they hit water. Meaning at least two of the lots in my subdivision (and there are only seven lots on each side of the road) are unsuitable for building a house. I've lived on this street for a good portion of my life. Built my house across the street from my parents - so that's a good 60 years ... and the woods around us were always dry. Now at the end of the street (which includes those two lots) standing water is a common sight.
I'm probably living on a cursed Indian burial ground.
@Michael308 That is one of the first mantras you are taught in Boot Camp......along with a bunch more of course, but this is KIND OF a "family site". Hope all is well with you and yours. Merry Christmas.
It's been forever since I've been on. Just thought I'd give an update on things as I have received a couple of messages asking how things are. My wife is doing better. Dealing with the effects of the meds she is on. She hasn't had anymore seizures thus far and if that continues she will be off seizure protocol and will have her freedom back mid February. Baby Addi is growing like a weed and has become mobile. She crawls faster than I can run. I'm still out of work due to the knee injury. Physical therapy helped but not enough... The next move is cortisone shots. Due to only receiving 2/3 of a paycheck since July, my wife with her medical bills and health, and several other reasons we have made the very difficult decision to sell the house and move into my in laws basement for the next little while to save some money. We were really hoping for Addilyn to spend her first Christmas in our first home... But 2020 plainly put has screwed us. So I've spent the past few weeks finishing their basement and will begin moving us this coming week. I really appreciate the messages, thoughts, and prayers.... Thinking I may take a break from it all this evening and have a smoke and whiskey tonight... It's been a long time since that has happened. Hope you all are doing well.
@Michael308; Good news about your bride. Hopefully you will be able to get back to work soon. You remain in my prayers. One smoke and a whiskey at a time, and look for better days to come. Merry Christmas.
@Londy3, buddy: The most optimistic calculations for when 2020 will end indicate late Spring, early Summer of 2021.... at that's the most optimistic predictions. Even then, with all the damage done to the economy and our way of life, 2020's going to be hanging around for a while.
One of my sons, the one who knows everything, says masks will remain a common sight even after the pandemic ends.
@Michael308 You and your family have been on my and my wife's mind since the original post, .
Suffice to say, we are rooting for you and I am reminded of what an old gambler said to me in my youth during a darker time, "do not despair as your luck can change with the turn of a card".
We wish you a Merry Christmas and the best of luck; enjoy that freshly minted soul that is Addilyn and my god bless you and your family
@Michael308 Sorry this year has been a rough one for you. You and your family have been in my prayers often this year. As dismal as it has been, never forget that this too shall pass, and you and your family will pass this storm. We're glad to have you here, and I have the utmost respect for you.
Over the past couple-dozen years the storm have been tending to more and more often go East across the Gulf of Maine, instead of across the state where they used to dump tons on all of us Mainers. This just-passed storm, it went south of us and here in Greene we only got around 5 - 6 inches added to the previous snowfalls.
Doesn't make the shovel any lighter to swing around, perhaps only a little shorter time to finish the job.
Has anyone heard from Gordy, aka @motie2? He wasn’t on the Zoom pipe club last week, and I haven’t seen any posts from him this week. Gordy, hope you’re doing okay.

Have you moved in with your in-laws yet?

And by the way, there's a nifty little sci-fi movie out there called SONGBIRD, and it's about COVID-23.
