Thanks @KA9FFJ , chatting with you on Friday was a big help with that.
@nelliefox , It's a bit uncomfortable, but what I learned is it's easy to get uncomfortably warm in the gown. I learned after my first day that long sleeve shirts underneath are a no-go. Once covid ends and I don't have to wear the face mask, it'll be easier, as my glasses won't keep fogging up.
@Londy3 Well, it is kind of data entry to an extent. I work for a company that sends surgical equipment to hospitals for surgeries. With what I do now, I work in the production room, and take pictures of how the packs need to be assembled, layer by layer. Because I'm handling the equipment and making the base sample of what the pack will be based on, I can't get any particulates on the equipment. So no drinks (including water), no food (which is probably a good thing for me...), and I can't even wear my wedding ring while I do my job. If I leave the production room, I have to wash my hands before coming back in. It's a whole new world for me, but I'll take it since I can at least work.
I can attest to that. Keeping my wet macular degeneration from blinding my left eye means I get an eyeball injection every 30 days. It’s a real horror movie trope. I get through it with Xanax, and then sleep all day afterwards. How did you put up with it? I’m a pussy about such things. I imagine you might have just toughed it out....
@motie2 I'm sorry you have to go through that every month. The injection itself wasn’t painful but 20 minutes later the burning painful irritation started. I just sat back in the recliner and closed the good eye and took a nap. Now it’s mostly feels like the corner of my eye is dry.
@PappyJoe and @motie2 Geeze Guys, that sound horrible. I had to have a piece of metal removed from my eye due to an accident at US Steel and it was a pain. Making matters worse I had to stand up from my sister's wedding the following day wearing an eye patch similar to what PappyJoe is wearing. Let's just say I avoided wedding pictures.
Hope you guys get better soon. And the thought of an injection in the eyeball once a week sounds as enjoyable as putting your testicles in a vice.
I got problems but it seems like every time I find myself complaining I see something like this, I shut my trap and thank my lucky stars, knowing things can be much worse.
My doc recommended Systane Gel eyedrops and Refresh Gel eyedrops. They both are very soothing, but I prefer the Refresh. Leaves less residue than the Systane.
@motie2 Thanks for the tip. I meant to ask them yesterday about eye drops but for some reason, I didn't remember. The good news is that by the time I went to bed last night, the irritation was down to just a dry spot in the corner of my eye. Woke up this morning and no pain. Don't know yet if the shot worked but I figure it might take a day or two to see. I go back for my next eye check in 4 weeks.
And today we teleconference with the hematologist/oncologist regarding my recent bloodwork...... and perhaps learn what, "ANA positive at high titer" portends.
Once you're on the medical merry-go-round.........
I just want to say that when we created this site, yes there was a business objective: you’re the biggest boat in the ocean so try to raise the ocean.
But the core of the vision was to create a place for pipe smokers to gather and support each other when they can’t do so in person (even pre-Covid). It was meant to be a platform that was owned by the community, not STG.
This thread more than any other supports that notion. And it says so much about this community that there are no Mods on This Pipe Life (certainly not me), and that due to the hearts of everyone here there will never be a need for one.
@Leonard Sooo, you are responsible for TPL. I haven't been participating for very long, but I am now addicted. I have never found a group of nicer people that I will never meet. It is all thanks to you. Stay well and thanks again!!
Maybe listening and learning, or maybe they decided it was just not for them? There might have been others that wanted to stir something up and it does not get much traction here. I think for the most part we are an understanding and “To each his own” group. To quote @KABUL07, “Smoke what you like and like what you smoke”. I think that statement sums up our overall outlook on other things as well.

Man, that don't sound fun at all. Getting old isn't for the faint of heart. Feel better soon.

Be strong, and of good courage.

Just sayin’ ..."?
I guess I’m a jackass.
Nah, just a skeptic, and that’s ok.
Yep, definitely a skeptic.

Thanks to everyone, and be careful out there.
YOU'RE ALIVE!
It's been so long since we've heard from you, we thought you had left us.
