Well, mine is quite simple and took no thought whatsoever. The first three letters are my initials, the last three are the first three initials of my now lifelong career, which will probably require me to work up to just seconds before I hit the floor in my Fait accompli.
My username comes from my love of philosophy, as well as, my love for pipes.
@thebadgerpiper love seeing another Brian Jacques fan! His writing was a staple of my 5-7 grad years! The Long Patrol was probably my favorite! I need to start collecting his works for posterity.
@ghostsofpompeii, we have a few things in common. Both musicians, both Italian and we like our pipes! thanks for sharing that story even though I'm a little late in responding to it.
@PhilosoPiper Glad to see another Brian Jacques fan on here! While I was aware of the series in middle school, I didn't get into it until 2010. I read them all over the next few years, and fell in love with the world of Mossflower. I even have a badger tattoo on my back in tribute to the series with "Eulalia" written underneath. The Long Patrol was a great book, full of action and great characters. My favorite is a tie between Mossflower and Outcast of Redwall.
You should definitely pick up the series when you can. You can usually find a few at used bookstores, which is how I'm collecting the hardcovers. Also, almost all the books have audiobooks on audible, and they were narrated by Brian while he was still alive, along with a full cast and music. They're excellent.
@thebadgerpiper I had heard of his audio books, I certainly do need to check into them. I have a digital copy of the Hobbit which at parts has Tolkien reading some of the songs or poems that he wrote, and there is something truly special about that. It is hard to pick an honest to goodness favorite out of all of those wonderful tales. I think the quirkiness of the rabbits in The Long Patrol is perhaps what resonated with me the most. Wot wot.
Sunspots can be a problem on certain bands, but the 10 and 6 meter band jump to life when the sun is active. I guess to answer you question, yes and no
@KG5QDZ Nice to meet a fellow ham. I mostly operate on low bands and 2 meter. I wish I had an unattached ham shack so I can operate and smoke my pipe at the same time. Ah, the pleasantness of wishful thinking...
@PhilosoPiper The hares are certainly the most entertaining characters to read in Redwall, wot. Apparently, Jacques modeled them after the airmen stationed in Liverpool while he was growing up with the bombings of WW2.
I had a year long subscription to Audible where I downloaded all the Redwall books, but also picked up the LOTR and Hobbit books. I hope the edition of The Hobbit that I have contains those readings.
@thebadgerpiper If you would like some real HEAVY reading, find a copy of JRRs "The Silmarillion". The book precedes LOTRs trilogy and starts from the beginning of time. Heavy, heavy reading (at least for me), but it was worth it because it helped fill in a lot of gaps in the Trilogy and made the LOTR more enjoyable. I found that keeping a notebook as I went along was the only way I could keep it all straight. But then, that was me...
@KA9FFJ I've borrowed my father's copy of The Silmarillion, and I've made a crack into it. Don't feel bad about keeping a notebook, as I might have to do the same. The book feels dense with information, but it's interesting.
My first name is Tobin but I grew up in a hispanic community and went to Catholic school. My teachers (many of whom were nuns) insisted on the Old Testament version of my name "Tobias". When I got into the army I got the nickname Brutus while serving in the US Army. I merged the two waaaaaaay back in the 90s for profiles and email accounts and have used it every since
@PappyJoe -- Chillax, as the young folks say...... Or did you intend to be gratuitous? I don't understand what comes across as unrelenting hostility. It really puzzles the hell out of me. What did I do to you to warrant your behavior?
Everywhere else in life I go by Fletch, but for some reason I could not use it on TPL Mangoandy was my first email address and based on my website/blog called theMangoTimes Origin of the name is here: Why the Name?
Rocky Mountain Briar is the name of my fledgling pipe making, restoring adventure. Also since another has sent a HAM call sign...here is mine, KB7WRW. Also know as Werewolf (WRW), a quick reference assigned to me many years ago by a professor at MSU Bozeman that was a HAM operator.
