Smoking some W.O. Larsen’s “Indigo” in a Brigham Mountaineer 347 this evening. It is definitely smoking cooler than the Klondike. It looks like the Klondike may be stripping sometime in the future…chick-a-boom-chick-a-boom-bah-bah-da-bump.
A morning commute with JM Boswells countryside. Had a bit of an interesting experience with it this morning. I think after smoking nightcap which is significantly more robust in flavor and has more latakia, that it has allowed me to pick up other flavors in latakia blends. Now countryside has been called a crossover/english-hybrid blend by some and after this morning I get that. While the latakia is there it also has very obvious sweetness that I didn't really comprehend before and a nuttiness that also wasn't apparent. And as a plus it doesn't make my mouth taste half as bad as nightcap although I wouldn't say I dislike nightcap or the lasting flavor. It also burned all the way to the bottom this morning. Nothing but ash. Anyways happy friday.
I received my package from SPC.EU today. I bought a Peterson branded stainless steel pipe tool, (2) Peterson Deluxe Chimney’s (extra’s), and (1) aluminum System tenon for my Pete 31….to bad it’s too big. 🙁 Oh well.
They had a sale on some pipes last week, so I grabbed one I had been looking at for awhile now to add to my order. It’s a Rattray’s Distillery 106. I drilled the airway to 4mm, removed as much of the bowl coating as I could (without sanding) and coated the outside bare briar with my mixture of beeswax, carnauba wax, and a little mineral oil. I think it helps to keep dirty finger marks for staining the briar, and I also think it helps coloring the nekid briar, similar to beeswax on a meerschaum. At least it is working that way on my other nekid briars. As I am typing, I have it loaded and smoldering with Mac Baren’s “Mixture Scottish Blend”, I thought it appropriate for a Scottish pipe break-in.🙂
Got the A/C on in the smoking shed the last couple of days. Burned a couple bowls of Briggs a day or two ago, Velvet yesterday and today I'll try some Granger in me Falcon. This week dedicated to the old "Drug Store Blends". There's a reason they have been around so long. I wonder if folks say the same thing about me? Probably not.
Well, this afternoon's activity consisted of taking a 2 gal. pump sprayer and attacking anything that didn't look like a blade of grass! I do this 2, maybe 3 times a year. When I do, I always tell my wife I'm going out to the "killing fields"...😏 Anyway, relaxing now by taking one of my "BIM" pipes on a maiden voyage with some 2019 Queen Anne's Revenge which was generously gifted to me by a good friend here at TPL...
@KA9FFJ; Maybe I wasn't smoking the Falcon the right way, but I found that the bowl and the metal all got so hot I couldn't hold it by my fingers. I thought I was sipping, but maybe not. What has been your experience?
@opipeman I love those pipes, but I gave up on them for the same reason. Haven't used one in about 15-20 years. @RockyMountainBriar has a few of them I think. He may hold the key to ancient mysteries needed for holding down the temp on the metal... 🤔
@opipeman, @KA9FFJ I only have the one Falcon, but I have never had it get too hot, but I think I may be a pretty cool smoker😬 in general. The two Falcon bowls I have (one briar, one meer) are not overly large and I get over an hour on a bowl.
Did 2 bowls of Frankenblend yesterday, while playing 18, in a modified Emerald cob. This morning enjoying a cup of joe while doing some RLP-6 in one of my "BIM" pipes...

You're looking good brother...
🎅
What is "Solani" like?
Thanks, Brother. You are the man for Virginias.

If you don’t mind me asking, where did you find that nice Peterson of Dublin T-Shirt?
What size do you wear?
I didn't double check my order and the first one I received was a Large.
I wear an Extra Large.

I seldom smoke mine either. I have three and maybe I just forgot the problem with them.
Yea, it's been too long for me to have any valid input, except for how much I liked the design and the interchangeable bowls...
Thanks for the link👍🏻
I am somewhere in between L-XL, most of my shirts are L, but lately I have been purchasing XL.

Starting the day with GLP Abingdon in a Pride and a cup of coffee.
I have always thought of you as a pretty cool smoker.
