@vtgrad2003; Damn Brother, that's cold. An old man might not fit the conventional definition of a groupie, but talent like @Londy3 needs to be appreciated.
My mom’s neighbors had a Black Walnut cut back from the power lines. I scored a few logs. I hope at least some dry without checking so I can make something cool from the wood. It would be nice to turn a candy bowl or something on the lathe for them. Maybe some pens if I don’t get any big pieces to dry without cracking.
@RockyMountainBriar; Me late high school football and track coach used to saw down Walnut Trees, take them to a saw mill, stack the planks in his garage to cure and make amazing stuff. He made everything from furniture to carvings of duck decoys. He died in a small plane crash on his way to fish in Canada in the 90's. I miss him to this very day.
@vtgrad2003 when I was teaching at a certain art school we had a unwritten rule for the students who would regularly try more and more clever ways to circumvent this....No making Bongs or Dongs.
@Londy3 yes. I made the foolishly lucrative decision to obtain three degrees in fine Art. 😂 For a while I was an adjunct faculty member for The School for American Crafts. My specialty is metal smithing. I was trained as a classical silversmith. I think I may have gone into the career about 100 years too late?
@Zouave Smithing is far far more noteworthy of a career than others, for instance, you could have ended up in the Professional Association of English Majors...
By the way, with those skills, did you ever think of being a farrier? When my wife and I were running our sport horse farm, we had to use a specialized farrier that would customize the fit for each horse...he actually had a portable forge to shape the shoes with. One day we went to the guy's house to drop off a check...freaking lived in a nice ass house, so he made good money.

It's beginning to look like Christmas 🎄
For some reason, your piece brings back memories of Charlie Brown's Christmas...😏
But seriously, well done... 👍🏻
That may be my favorite of all that you have done so far, Brother.
Thanks so much. That picture is pretty big. I'd say life size hurricane lamp
Feel free to use your amazing skills with that wood and I'd be honored to receive something cool 😎
