This is the type of crap, freak out, panic crap that has to stop.
"COVID hospitalizations skyrocket in kids too young for vaccines"
This article (below) states that cases in this age group have gone from 2.5 per 100,000 to 4 per 100,000; to put that into perspective, that's 0.0025% to 0.0040%...I mean, come on! Most people don't make these calculations, so they rely on a bunch of idiots in the media (the vast majority of which either never took any math with their journalism degrees, or failed them at least once) to inform them of significant trends so they can respond accordingly, but this is a clear case of simply causing panic for panic's sake.
How many damn vaccines are we supposed to take? Pretty soon, 1/2 the country's auto-immune responses won't be worth a crap because they are always taking vaccines!
Once in a while we just have to stand back in awe of our government. The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing the greatest number of free meals and food stamps ever - to 46 million people in 2021.
Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Dept. of the Interior, asks us to "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "the animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."
You should watch the videos on this link...it's pretty wild. That said, I'm sure we can chalk this eruption up to global warming/climate change because that's the only reasonable cause for it.
I don't know if any of you have been following this guy, but he reminds me a lot of when Bill Cosby called out the black community for fatherly responsibility and was thusly slayed (mostly by white democrats) for even suggesting that one of the problems in the black community was fatherless children. Having grown up on the streets dealing drugs, and now teaching at an HBCU for the past 16 years, this pastor is spot on. But it doesn't just apply to Chicago where he is, but in most large cities with significant black plight all across the nation.
You can either give a man a fish or teach him how to fish.
@vtgrad2003 He should come down to New Orleans area and check out what is going on. Just this weekend, there were six armed carjackings by black youths under the age of 17. There isn't a day that has gone by without at least one murder. Just yesterday, a black woman was shot and killed while driving on the interstate - and that wasn't the first time it has happened in the past week.
Non-violent crime in 2021 was down, but the number of violent or gun related crimes were up. In the meantime, New Orleans has a black female mayor who is a Democrat, a "progressive" District Attorney who is refusing to prosecute offenders and has installed a revolving door for those arrested. And a police department frustrated because criminals are being released before the cops can finish the paperwork.
While I live near Chicago and used to enjoy the attractions, museums, concerts, restaurants, etc.... I have not ventured there in 3.5 years due to the insanity.
I always carried a gun when in the city for the last 10 years, but I never carried out here in the suburbs till about 3 years ago, thats when the violence began to expand beyond the city's borders.
@opipeman There was a senator from South Carolina a long time ago doing a radio interview with NPR I believe (this was decades ago). The interviewer asked why the homicide rates in the south were so high, without missing a beat he said ' because in the South we believe some people just need killin' '
And there in lies some of the problem. Reforming a person is great and can happen with great successes (I'm sort of proof of that), but not everyone is reformable. Far too many violent offenders are being given light sentences, let out with little to no bond, etc., and they go out and commit more crimes.
Violence is nothing new of course. Back in the late 90's when I was a regional production director for Piccadilly Cafeterias, at one of our Augusta Georgia locations we even had a gun safe in the manager's office where the employees (mostly gang members trying to do right) would have to drop off their guns before going to work. But back then when you got handed a sentence, you got a significant sentence...nowadays, though, criminals seem to laugh at the justice system instead of being intimidated by it.
@vtgrad2003; That is an excellent commentary on life today. Personally, I must confess, I've only been in one bar fight in my life. I think I could have whipped her, if I hadn't been drunk!
This is an article that exemplifies the "it takes a village" attitude versus individual rights and freedoms--it also exemplifies how little your typical modern democrat (albeit Canadian) understands about what freedom and the United States of America actually stands for.
@RockyMountainBriar Dude, I'm with ya' there...sounds like it's nuts up there, but you'd think they wouldn't bitch too much because they already live 5 months out of the year underground
@PappyJoe In economics both are considered "command economies"; in my class I teach socialism as simply "communism-lite". In practice, globally anyway, there isn't much difference between the two, it just depends to what degree constituents approve of national policy and how well the economy does to keep them pacified.

I know, although it does imply that it wasn't beat cop(s) that were doing it.
You wouldn't want the troops defining the strategy!

Americans shouldn't have to live like this!

Socialist. Not Communist.
There is a difference.
Correct. My bad.
