@Zouave I have one of those in my old camera collection. I found it at a junk shop back in the 8os and even ran a roll of film through it. It worked pretty good.
I had to Wiki the “Brazilian Expeditionary Force”. What can I say, I love history. Anyway, interesting WWII history I did not know about, worth a read. Interesting how the “Smoking Snakes” came about. Thanks for posting that @Zouave👍🏻
@RockyMountainBriar Since you mentioned it I looked it up as well, while the Brazilian's only numbered 100K they had a fair amount of success during the Italian campaign and provided support with convoys and going after u-boats,
The Brazilians arrived in part to replace French and American troops
who in June had been sent to the south of France to participate in
Operation Dragoon. By the end of May 1945, the total number of Brazilian
servicemen in Italy reached 25,334 people.
1oGAVCA P-47s carried the “Senta a Pua!” emblem as nose art along with the Brazilian Air Force stars
At that time, the phrase “when snakes smoke” became popular, similar
in meaning to the expression “when pigs fly” in reference to something
that will probably never happen. After entering the war, members of the
BEF proudly wore a badge depicting a cobra with a pipe in its mouth and
called themselves the “Smoking Cobras.”
The Germans, in turn, attached great importance to the stay of the
Brazilian armed forces in Italy and used propaganda against them.
Germany created propaganda leaflets geared toward the Brazilians and
aired a daily radio program in Portuguese called “Hora AuriVerde”
(Golden-Green Hour).
with all the news on Ernest Shackleton lately, found these of his crew. Looks like there were a handful of pipe smokers on board....at least while the tobacco stores held out.
I'm putting this here because I couldn't find another thread as close as this one to show my newest addition to my workshop. My neighbor has a CNC router and ran out of projects, so he made this picture/sign out of oak. I haven't decided to paint, stain, both or nothing yet, but I thought I would show you guys. I'll hang it at my little shop, and take it to place on my table at the pipe show...
If it was me, which it isn't because I'm still on vacation, I would take a thin brush and paint only the very bottom of the grooves black...that would really make that board pop.
I have decided I must be out of touch with my fellow man due to the fact that I was surprised by the Satyr hoof footsies, didn't realize they were available, although considering the whole furries thing you'd have thought (correctly) I'm just not paying attention.

Can't get enough classic photos of pipe smokers.

I thought about writing a short excerpt about the logo, but I was I was lazy.
