@pappyjoe I'm not very patient especially when I bored at work. I don't want to admit to how many time I check these forums every day (about once an hour).
It will be good to see the new rules for levels. Since I only come in here once a day - maybe twice, if I think to do another "what are you smoking" post, it will probably take a while before I reach exalted levels. I'm a patient guy - no hurry.
So, pretty much what you're telling us is, to post pad as much as possible... count me in. I'm ready to be the Supreme Ultimate (my new title at 501) hahaha
I believe it is a point system now. Something along the lines of a new badge for doubling the amount required for the last badge (ex. badge at 75 comments then the next would be 150). At least that is what I am noticing. What about others?
I'm thinking that's how it works, @pipeprofessor. I must be about due for another badge soon. Whenever. I'm not going to sweat it. ((We need smilies!))
@judandhispipe - You'll get there. But how it works is a mystery. I have over 300 comments but I'm only an enthusiast. I've got to get creative and invent some new discussion topics but @pipeprofessor has beaten me to most of them.
@pappyjoe I'm in the same boat as you, over 300 comment but apparently not enough discussions to make it to the next level. There are only so many topics we can do without repeating. I had fun last night going back and reading through the forums and commenting on so many posts that were buried.
I'm so confused at this point,I don't care what I am as long as I have me pipe. But does this mean that when things go kurfluny we complain first to the "Masters"? And,if that's the case I wanna be a plebe please.
@pappyjoe, @mhajec, @drac2485, @judandhispipe I agree with you all, I just enjoy coming here for the conversation, I could care less about the points. It seems it is a mysterious system and has no real effects. We who log in often and are active know who are the ones contributing. It doesn't matter if you have 1 point or 1,000, real recognize real.
I come on here to be a part of a community of like minded individuals and have fun. Titles are reserved for those who lack the ability to be satisfied with being just a member of the body. I'm not trying to knock on those that really do care about their pipe board titles, I'm just confused as to why I guess.
With that said, their's not to reason why, their's but to do and die (their being me in this instance).
It's not important to me; it's just curiosity about what it takes - especially since the rules seem to have changed since first announced. Probably take me a while to move past apprentice, simply because I tend to comment more than I start discussions - and I don't comment unless I feel I can add something to the discussion.
@mhajec I like the title just for fun and something to work towards. Also with this being so new there are quite a few bugs that are still being worked out and the ranks seem to be one of them. As @jusandhispipe commented the rules have changed since this got started but none are the way it is so is it a bug or an unknown? I just love some of the banter we get into with it as well since there are those of us that would love to become THE MASTER (bad Dr. Who joke).
It's human nature to always want to categorize or rank things. Some may try to deny this, but it is one of the truths about being a human. Titles are a means to show achievement. I consider words like husband, father, grandfather to be titles of achievement. I also still carry the title of Senior Chief from my years in the Coast Guard. It shows that I worked hard and advanced to the top of my field.
On this site, the titles let visitors and new members know who have been here the longest and who participates. I think that is important.
@judandhispipe You can announce a post which is like "pinning" it. For example, the NATO post was pinned. I'm still waiting for the rankings, I'll see if I can post today! By rules, you meant the rankings, right?
@CharleneSTGLaneLTD how do you announce a pin? I know it moves to the top whenever someone comments, I like that but it can make it difficult when trying to go through posts as people are busy commenting (the discussions moving while your moving from one page to another).
