Frankenblend I call Owl Farm: A big jar with a portion of every aromatic I’ve tried from around 2018.
When I took up the pipe after a several decade gap, my first two blends were Molto Dolce and Maple Street. I moved on from there, even re-discovering Endlish blends, but avoiding VaPers, for no reason in particular. Add a tin of Balkan Sasieni (standing in for the fondly remembered Sobranie) and I’m smoking the same kind of blends I smoked in the Sixties and Seventies. But today’s aros are of much higher quality. And the Sasieni does the job.
I loaded my Morgan Briar Cigar with a “Bandito’s” cigar cutt-off….it was just too harsh in the briar cigar so I dumped it and reloaded it with some Rattray’s “Dark Fragrant”. It’s not so harsh👍🏻. I still have to figure out how to keep this thing lit🤔😖
Sutliff Mixture 79 in a small Bones tomato shape about ready to get incinerated here. Just a walk in the past. My Dad smoked this when I was a kid. I have not smoked this blend in years but wanted some in honor of my wonderful Dad. So going out to the deck and giving it a toasting.
Waiting for the stain to dry on a project. Decided to relax with some Lane 1Q in a @Corey562 artisan pipe. This is a good sized egg that is surprisingly light considering its size. Not to mention what a really good smoker it is. It's always a pleasure to smoke his pipes (I have 5!😬)...
Yesterday I fired up me Savinelli Brandy KS with some "Barking Dog". Later I loaded her with some "Velvet" and still later a bowl of "Half & Half". I really tend to gravitate to the codger blends of late. Maybe because, I are one.
Third bowl today while doing yard work and working on converting a small tabletop cabinet for pipe storage. Right now it's Frankenblend in a Frankenpipe...
I was digging around in my cellar footlocker and found a tin of McClelland Piper's Choice Black Tie. I bought it in May 2017 but the tin is stamped "570114" so it may be 10 years old. Smoked the first bowl in one of my clay pipes. It's a Virginia/Perique blend and was actually a smooth smoker.
I decided to take a couple of my Kiseru pipes for a “drive”. I had some of the”Le Cerf Ardennais” Semois tobacco (a gift sample) left and thought it might be a stand-in for actual kizami tobacco. I just dipped the bowls in the bag like old codgers did with their tobacco pouches back in the day. This stuff is bone dry, but it was ok. Maybe a little sharp, but not bad. I got about 10-15 good puffs per fill. I didn’t have to relight any of the bowls either😬. I smoked 5-10 loads in each pipe. The short Kiseru is the new Tsuge I recently purchased that bums me out because the bamboo is fake. The bowl on the long one was in my Uncle Jim’s stuff I got from his estate. It has what looks like what could be a Japanese symbol/letter? engraved onto it. I would bet he brought it back from Japan after serving in the US Army in WWII. The original bamboo (rau)-stem was broken off at about ~2” and the (suikuchi)-mouthpiece was missing. I fit a piece of bamboo for the rau and cobbled a suikuchi from copper pipe and a brass fitting and used silver plumbing solder to solder them together. I’ll be damned if I can remember what a I did with the original short/broken piece of bamboo, it had a black lacquer finish🤔

That London Dock is a pretty tasty tobacco blend.
Great looking pipe brother...
(Not to mention the lid). 😏
Now I hve a sudden hankering for Escudo.
Here’s to you and your dad.
I love it🙂
Great that you honor your father, but that tobac bites my tongue so bad I couldn't smoke a whole bowl.

Looking forward to seeing your conversion of the cabinet.

It’s supposed to be a picture of bamboo stalks.
