The biggest bass I ever saw happened when I was in high school, a buddy and I went fishing in a local farm pond. It was a beautiful summer day. The fish weren't biting and it was hard to stay awake just setting in the shade. A few yards away there was a tree limb in the water and partially on the bank. I noticed there was an acorn setting on the limb about a two yards from shore. I watched as a squirrel slowly walked out to retrieve the acorn. As he got to the acorn, a huge bass suddenly leapt over the log and took the squirrel into the deep. I woke my buddy and told him what had happened. The water was still churned up from the splash. I have no idea how big that bass was, but it had to be huge. It was an amazing thing to witness, but it wasn't over, about 15 minutes later that bass put the acorn back on the log. If I'm lying, I'm dying!
I always catch and release, even when surf fishing I catch and release unless I know a major run is happening and I can catch enough for a couple of decent meals. I mostly fish for sport, not eating.
The size bass around here are usually no larger than 5 lbs...and I catch those on a fairly consistent basis. Anything over that is rare, but, like all fishing, if you read the elements correctly (i.e., wind patterns, eddies, depth, sun coverage, etc.) you can catch ones up to 11 or 12 lbs. The lake I took the pictures from is a Duke Energy coal plant cooling lake and has a depth up to 140'. Also, because it's a recreational lake (not strictly a fishing lake) no one fishes it from about Memorial Day to Labor Day because of all the drunk fucking idiots out there who can't drive boats or know what planing even means (getting a boat on plane decreases the amount of wake thrown), making it impossible to fish and/or hold position with a trolling motor. Fortunately, this means that there is little stress on the fish during this period so finding large ones in this lake isn't unheard of.
@vtgrad2003 I was the managing editor of a monthly fishing magazine for 10 years and covered a few of the B.A.S.S. Classic tournaments as well as some of the larger state bass association tournaments. I also covered a number of saltwater tournaments. All of them were catch and release tournaments and the anglers were penalized for weighing in dead fish. In fact, they weren't allowed to cull dead fish in some of the tournaments.
Instead of letting the dead fish go to waste at the local tournaments, they would clean the fish and donate them to a local food bank or church.
When I go fishing (not often these days) I keep enough game fish for two or three meals. I do keep most of the other fish like sheepshead, channel cats, flounder, etc.
@jim102864 The flavor profile is a full bodied Latakia and Lakeland flavor. Smells like a campfire in the tin. Smokes great. I’m partial to Commonwealth mixture myself but like all Samuel Gawith blends. I’d recommend it.
@Londy3 Thanks Brother. Lemon vodka on the rocks? You sure we aren’t related? Excellent choice in the sun!
Let’s go Pens!!! Playoffs and NYR are gonna smoke us but I can be hopeful!
Smoking some C&D “House Reserve” I picked up awhile back at “Stogies”, one of the local B&M’s. It’s loaded in a 4th Generation sandblast poker. This pipe really smokes wet, the stem always loads up and gurgles. I only have about five bowls through it, holding out hope that it settles down and smokes dry someday.
Wife and I spent most the day at my brother in law's house cleaning. He as surgery tomorrow for an aneurism the size of a tangerine! Anyway, now relaxing with some LL7 in a MM Charles Towne...
Lately I've been smoking the old OTC Prince Albert almost exclusively. I can see why it has been around so long. It is very pleasant, somewhat like me. It doesn't bite, somewhat like my wife. I've smoked it in a variety of my pipes. This one is a Savinelli Estella.

Good looking pipe brother...
Just opened a fresh tin of Peterson Royal Yacht. Man the poop deck! Yeah, I don't know what I'm talking about.
Excellent brother!

I think we are.
Love that Savinelli.
Great photo. Makes me want to smoke a bowl and sip some scotch.

It must be the angle. It is very light weight and a great smoking pipe as are most savinellis.
@KA9FFJ 👍
