I just tried P&C's Out Of Office "Civic Duty" for the first time in one of my H.S. Studio pipes.
"Civic Duty" is the cherry blend of their Out Of Office line. And it reminds me of Sutliff Apple in that it too is a pleasant smoking bite free tobacco with an excellent taste - but not a hint of the fruit flavor it's intended to represent. I can't detect a hint of apple in Sutliff Apple, nor do I taste cherry flavor in "Civic Duty". But that's alright ... because all other cherry flavored tobacco products I've tried have either an artificial chemical flavor or else taste like a cough drop, leaving a bad aftertaste in my mouth long after the smoking experience. Whereas "Civic Duty" is a flavorful blend with more of a vanilla note than anything particularly fruity. I really enjoyed it and will buy a few more tins before it's discontinued.
Smoked two bowls of Pike Place in my rescued Kirsten. Meerschaum bowl for the first, the original briar bowl for the second. First Balkan blend that I've ever purchased and I bought it last year.
DEVASTATION - defined as that feeling you get when you open your 1st and only tin and Pike Place and then learn it had to be pulled off the market because Seattle Pipe Club lost a trademark case in court and they can re-release it at this time because of the FDA Deeming regulations.
Now I have to try and find a Balkan blend that is lose to Pike Place. Smoking some Lane Crown Achievement at the moment.
@PappyJoe -- I feel your pain. I still haven't found a match for the old Balkan Sobranie, neither WhiteKnight nor Black House made the grade, IMHO. I'm still looking. Give me my sweet Sutliff aromatics, an occasional bowl of Escudo, and something to fill the void left by the original Balkan Sobranie Smoking Mixture and I'd have every pipe smoking wish fulfilled.... and I'm 2/3 of the way there!
Normally don't smoke early in the day but I'm starting early to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and I plan on smoking only CAO "Eileen's Dream" in my rusticated Peterson Dracula 999 Pipe.
