Well I couldn't decide so I flipped a coin and the Seattle pipe club Mississippi river mud won the toss. Smoking it out of a curiously shaped Mario Grandi pipe
Unfortunately, the Aromatrix is working a weird schedule....she's gone all night tonight and I hate that. To make up for it somewhat, I'm staying up way later than normal, watching baseball, drinking beer, and smoking some hickory dark-fired that I love but that she's not too fond of in person
Are you storing your tobacco in airtight jars (such as Mason Jars). I have many aromatic blends that stay well over time in Mason Jars. There is a theory professed that Aros' loose their "aroma" over time. I am here to tell you I have aromatics that are several years old and they taste the same (some even better, particularly ones with Virginias) so lopng as they are cellared correctly. That even includes being kept in a stable environment temperature wise, and if in clear glass, kept out of the sunlight.
Now if my findings are wrong, then it must be that the cellared time needs to be much longer in order for them to loose their flavor. My oldest is probably going on 4 to 5 years. Again, I can pick any blend in my cellar, load a pipe, and the taste is the same (by memory) as the first time I smoked that blend..
@pwkarch and @KA9FFJ Thanks for the tips guys. I'll try adding some Chocolate Mousse to the blend to see if I can mellow it out. It's just too harsh on the tongue to smoke by itself. I also have a tin of Blood Red Moon and thinks it's probably the best of the cherry flavored blends.
@ghostsofpompeii — I agree with you about Blood Red Moon. It’s the best of cherry blends. No bite and the chocolate seems to mellow out the entire blend. Good aro.
Night Cap of Burley and Black. ....Heading out to St. Augustine Fl. In the morning to the World Golf Village, Hall of Fame. Get to play the King and the Bear Course. ....told yall i had a good boy.... lol
Oh, sweet miracle! It's another red-blooded American Friday! Woo-hoo! I'm starting the day with some Cornell & Diehl Haunted Rooster in one of my favorite partial bent Savinellis. Have a great weekend everybody!
Last night I stacked a bowl with 50% Sutliff Vanilla Custard and 50% Chocolate Mousse. I should have topped off the bowl with Crème Brulee and it would have made a variation of my Mrs. Hudson's 221B Bakery Blend. But unless you actually mix all the blends together it doesn't have the same as stacking the bowls. Something about mixing in the proper proportions to create 221B Bakery Blend - stacking the bowl makes each blend dominant as it burns, then slowly switches flavor as the ember takes hold of the next blend in the stack. Then the next blend becomes dominant and the one before it is in the background. Once that bottom layer takes hold you can pick out elements of the previous blends while the third layer comes to the forefront. By the end you can get a mix of all three - but no where near as if you would have mixed them together before packing the pipe. But still, all-in-all it's a great smoking experience when smoking aromatics. Sometimes you can really come up with flavorful layered combinations that can really perk-up your taste buds as the next blend takes hold.
