<<And he gives me a chocolate Easter bunny. And this shows how tricky those guys are. I eat the chocolate and I think, wait a second... this isn't around Easter. "Was this a test?" He said, "Yes." "And what does it mean?" He said, "Well, had you eaten the ears first you would have been normal; had you eaten the feet first you would have had an inferiority complex; had you eaten the tail first you would have had latent homosexual tendencies; and had you eaten the breasts first you would have had a latent oedipal complex." I said, "Well, go on. What does it mean when you bite out the eyes and scream, 'Stop staring at me!'?'" He says, "It shows you've a tendency towards self-destruction." I said, "What do you recommend?" He says, "Go for it!">> ~Emo Phillips
C&D's Shandygaff in my Marvic Cuttyegg. I probably should be heading to bed soon, but after a long day, it's good to unwind with a pipe and some writing.
@jfreedy , have you had an opportunity to try aged Mixture? That stuff ages like a dream, I had some 10 year old stuff, last fall, that was wonderful. Got another tin that will hit 10 years later this year.
Welcome David.......any mixing of tobaccos that you can dream up will "work". Just try and be considerate of the perceived flavors. For instance, not knowing your preferences, a cherry tobacco might go very well with a vanilla tobacco. A nutty (burley) goes well with a vanilla tobacco (usually cavendish). Be creative and imaginative. I mix all the time, and I will start out at equal proportions of the blends used (2,3,4?) and if I am on to something I might adjust the proportions from there. When I do this I keep notes so if I hit on something that I really like I will have the "recipe" so to speak.
Also be considerate of the tobacco "types" and the cuts. Certain tobaccos such as Latakia and Perique are (in my opinion) a "learned experience". There are countless burleys, virginias, etc. some of which are straight, some of which are cavendish. You will learn what you like as you go forward.
As you know there are what appear to be endless possibilities relative to choices. There are some tobacco products that taste alike, some with the same descriptions that taste entirely different. That is what is so fun about this hobby, exploring and experimenting.
Some people are just lucky and find something they really like right out of the gate and fall in love immediately with a blend or two. Others such as myself are always looking for Nirvana, while in between I smoke favorite blends straight.
And BTW, Lane 1Q is an aromatic, in fact it is reported to be and has been for many years the most popular tobacco (period) sold in the US.
I've moved on to another blend, Cult Blood Red Moon and another pipe, m very first pipe, a Peterson bent pot. This is my first spin with BRM, which has a heavy cherry tin note. I moved on to my Peterson because the Rossi doesn't seem to present the flavors due to it's oversized bowl that normal sized bowls do, or so it seems that's the reason anyway..
Pwkarch Alot of great info thanks. Everybody has there favorites. The best blend that I have made is grape with plumcake half of each. It will be a stable blend for me.
Attached below are four articles from the FREE Pipe Smoking Library folder that you can download and help you at the beginning of your journey. I'd also suggest -- if you are interested in aromatics in particular -- Sutliff's many sweet tasting and smelling blends. http://www.tobaccopipes.com/sutliff-pipe-tobacco/
