@Corey562, I would like a long stem on it, have a vulcanite one pre-made to 5/16 diameter. Just put the mortise in at 5/16 and the stem is a little loose. Will have to come up with a plan B on that. Can you make a churchwarden stem?
@Corey562, also I just ordered sandpaper at 3000, 5000 and 7000 grit from Amazon. the stores around here only go up to 2000. Remind me, how many coats of stain did you use before polishing? I remember you sanded in between. Thanks
@mfresa I will use any where from 2 to 3 coats depending on the grain and the contrast I desire. Here is on I had brought in for a fresh buff. When I made this one I only used one coat of black and a coat of a reddish brown I mixed up.
@Corey562, very pretty. I'm going to stay away from the black and go with the deep red/maroon. Hopefully it will look like the one you posted earlier. You can message me if you don't want to post to this thread anymore. I probably have a million questions, well maybe not a million, but you know... From time to time maybe you could give me a sanity check, I need those :-)
@PhilosoPiper- thanks, I asked the vendor to send me one with a lot of birdseye in it, and he did. I got pretty lucky in shaping the pipe to take advantage of it.
