Loved watching Apollo 13 (again). On of my favorite parts, of which there were many, was when the command center had to do some very complicated math calculations... you guessed it, out came the old slide rule. I would venture to say most of the population today doesn't even know what that is...
The very first digital calculator I ever saw was in the 6th grade. A friend’s mother had received one for Christmas and he got to bring it to school…well…I’m not sure his mom knew. I think he said it was around $300 (in 1975/76). It looked very nearly like this, as far as I can remember. It was a very basic calculator.
My parents bought me with one of these little guys for Christmas about ‘1978’. Just for size comparison, the case is smaller than a wristwatch case. I thought it was cool as heck. I still have it, and it works fine. I carried it in it’s little protective “pleather” pouch for many years. I think it was around $30-$60? at the time. It’s amazing how fast technology advanced (and got less expensive) in just a few years, and it’s still progressing rapidly. I wish I could live to see all the things coming…technology wise. It would be glorious!
Used a slide rule my first couple of years in college. I never got real good at it. About 20 years ago I started a collection of slide rules. They could be found in Antique Malls and on Ebay and were fairly cheap. I have around a hundred. I haven't bought any for years. Always thought they were kinda cool. I guess they bring out the nerd in me.
I think some older fellas may once again wear the plastic shorts with elastic bands😳
Those shoes would probably work for a pipe stand with pipe cleaners in one shoe, long stick matches in the other, and a pipe in between, or two pipes, one in each shoe.
So I have a Rocu system on my TV and one of my subscriptions is SLING, they now hve a Red Green Channel, dudes I need someone to glue my balls back on as I'm laughing my them off
@Montecristo; 1950's is correct. Got my first painted turtle and the plastic habitat @ the Iowa State Fair. Didn't know how to properly care for it and it didn't last long.
@PappyJoe; My 13 year old grand daughter has had one in an aquarium for a couple of years. The trick is keeping the water clean, turtles foul the water pretty quick. Hers has quadrupled at least in size. She says she is going to release it in the neighbors pond this summer. We'll see.
One of my niece’s and her husband have a large turtle habitat. His and Her turtles must be at least 10 years old by now. I think he got her interested in turtles when they first started dating in high school (and no @vtgrad2003, it’s not an euphemism…..well….I don’t think it is🤔). They dated for over five years before they married and moved in together. I’m happy to say, I think it will be one of those, rare it seems nowadays, ‘almost’ fairytale marriages that will last their lifetime.

All we can do is keep our faith in God.

No, but it ain't a bad idea.
@RockyMountainBriar;
Thank God I ain't there yet, but I have friends my age that are.
Turtle habitat circa 1950’s?
That was my first pet!

Duct tape won't work to reattach balls, at least it hasn't worked for me. Super glue may work.
