If you wanted to see kids get really upset, you'd stick around after the show was over and see how many kids would pull out with either the speaker still attached to the window with the cord hanging loose, or the window glass popped out...😬
@opipeman until VERY recently....I still had those in my basement. That is until the electrician who just worked on our house told me my fuze box was outlawed in the 70s and had to be replaced immediately.😂
@Montecristo; A penny in first bypasses the fuse which could overload the circuit and cause the wires to get hot and short out and set the place on fire. It was an old arsonists trick, but usually it was a careless home owner tried of replacing fuses. @Zouave; That electrician may have saved your house and maybe your life.
@Montecristo Yep, I remember the Mercurochrome. Had many scraps and cuts covered with it before bandaids were applied. You didn't have to worry about any infections.
I saw those in a few diners. The last ones I saw were in a place called “The Five and Diner” somewhere around 2000-2004. It was a new Diner with a 50’s decor….duh🙂. It lasted just about 2-3 years before it was turned into a Casino and dropped the food. The building was razed after about another 5-10 years. It’s a “Cafe Rio” Mexican fast casual now.

I remember those!
I also remember when the drive-ins switched from those to a transmitter so you could get the audio on your AM radio.
Remember.....Hell yes! Every weekend for six or seven years before my wife and I got married. Steamed up windows....sweet memories.
Yeah, wasn't it amazing how a movie speaker generated enough heat and humidity to steam up the car windows.
Maybe that is the answer to our energy problems. Put several in each room of our houses and save on gas/electric heat.
That airline cuisine was a far cry from the mixed snack bag you get now...🫤

Mercurochrome was every child's first experience with the "treatment was worse than the injury."
Ditto...
