For me, it always depended on the skits and and who were the guests. For example, Jonathan Winters was always a classic on the Tonight Show... among others...
@KA9FFJ, @Balisong; Williams and Winters were the best. The Thing I liked about Carson was how he introduced new Comics to his audiences. Most went on to be big stars. Leno never did that. I liked Letterman's dry humor, but he eventually took a hard turn to the left. So, I turned him off. I never cared for all the ones that followed. I can't figure out how some of them are still on the air.
I remember borrowing wax paper from mom to make the metal slide slicker and slide down faster...it worked! But(t) beware of sliding in shorts in the summer sun...
@johnspecht; I believe you are correct "Bazooka Joe and his Gang". You have a memory better that mine. Wax paper... I had forgotten about that also. It really worked.
@KA9FFJ; Would you believe my Jockey Shorts? When my Bride and I were first married, I asked her why she didn't iron my Jockeys. She thought I had lost my mind.
Man! I miss pulling out a road atlas and planning my road trips. I know people now who get lost if they don't have a GPS telling them to "Turn Left in 100 feet."
@mapletop Well, for sure it can make a person lazier, but I do think it can make a person smarter as well. I’m amazed at the stuff I learn everyday…some good, some bad, and some WTF was that?
Just think of all the stuff learned here on this forum alone. I have soaked in plenty of experience, wisdom, and information from lots of different people here, and this is just a small part of the internet world.
@RockyMountainBriar your right of course, I'm more referring to the last two generations, they seem to believe that there is no need to absorb much of the knowledge thats offered to them believing they have instant access and are thus all knowing.
I recently had a 35 year old narcissist tell me how great he was and all the things he could do until he actually had do the work but could not.
I am amazed at all the things I expect to still be common knowledge that aren't any more, but what I find most disturbing is the attitude the kids have these days; they have no idea how ignorant they truly are.
When my nieces and nephews were in grade school I saw the “new way” of solving basic math problems. It was crazy confusing for me..I still don’t know how it is done. Then again, I didn’t really care to “unlearn” my way.

Funny, personally I never thought any late night comedy shows were/are funny.
Especially the night with Winters and Robin Williams!

I could live a long time without that information.

That is why the younger generations can’t do math without a calculator.
And the calculator is an app on their cellphone!
