Thanks! And they should be fined, too!
  • @vtgrad2003 from what I am seeing, it looks like for every dollar they invested in N. Korea, they made back $20. Then they funneled it back into the company through a shell corporation in Singapore.

As hard as it may be to believe, the New York Times was once the epitome of a good newspaper. It had some of the top NEWS reporters and was known for its hard hitting but unbiased reporting. This was even though the paper has not endorsed a Republican for office since Dwight D. Eisenhower ran for President.

In my opinion, that changed around the late 1990s/early 2000. It then started moving further to the left and again, in my opinion, went from having some of the top NEWS reporters to having liberal OPINION reporters.

DISCLAIMER: I was assigned to the Coast Guards News & Photo Center for the Atlantic Area & Third Coast Guard District from Dec. 1985 through June 1989. I was the senior enlisted public affairs specialist and we routinely dealt with reporters from all the New York area media on a daily basis. The New York Times had some very good reporters and photographers back then that were politically more to the center.

    @PappyJoe

I tend to agree with you that at one time, it engaged in more 'honest journalism' than it does now.
That said, along the same lines you were suggesting, a philosophy colleague of mine in Florida (whom I've known since my days at Chapel Hill) once told me that a media outlet should only be evaluated based upon the opinion columnists it "can" hire (emphasize "can"). He basically said that outlets fall into one of two categories:

It has high standards that are applied rigorously and equally--these outlets "can" hire reputable opinion columnists from both sides of the aisle and do exactly that.
It has compromised it's standards and "can" only hire opinion columnists mostly from one side or the other, and none of the columnists are reputable.

In other words, reputable opinion columnists only want to write for outlets that have the highest standards, regardless of the 'political foundations' of the outlet, and outlets that are crap can only hire crap.

Along the lines you indicated, the NYT used to fall into the former camp, but now they are in the latter.

Frankly, I don't know why we hang on to all these nuclear weapons if we never use them...personally, I'm quite sick of dealing with North Korea. Yes, I know that's harsh, but I grew up in a society where, as a famous senator from South Carolina once said, "some people just need killin', and KJ 2 is just such a person. The suffering in North Korea is horrible and his constant threatening of not only the US, but Japan and South Korea has come to a point where something has to be done simply to shut this jackass up.

No need to destroy a country, just alleviate it of one individual, or a small group of individuals.
  • @vtgrad2003
There is nothing you just said that I disagree with.
In my experience, every news outlet has reporters who really just want to report news. Unfortunately those were usually the working class reporters and not the big money reporters. Let me put it this way, early in Dan Rather's career, he was a good reporter who just did his job and reported the news. The higher in the reporter food chain he rose, the more his political beliefs and ego grew to the point that he would only report stories that reflected his point of view and would feed his ego. This meant as he got older, he made decisions that give him a initial boost buy later came back to damage his ego and career because he knowingly used false information and got caught.

Here's some trivia most people don't know. Walter Cronkite was often referred to as the "Most Trusted Man in America" because he was well respected for being unbiased in his reporting. In reality, If I had to characterize Cronkite's politics, I would call him a socialist hypocrite. He became disillusioned with the government starting in the mid-1960s and just kept moving further to the left. On the other hand, Cronkite took a stand against wind farms in the Martha Vineyard area because he lived there and didn't want his view disrupted.

I disagree...profusely. You don't hold onto power for that long, doing what that family has been doing (i.e., torture, public execution, etc) without having strong and very deep roots. The only time in history the US has actually changed the course of a nation was Japan...and it took "nukes" to do that; we've never had success just picking off a "small group of individuals"...whatever those individuals represented simply popped up at a later date under a different name or worse, continued with no affect whatsoever.
  • @opipeman
    Wait….that ain’t funny😳
  • There are no real news outlets, all opinions (propaganda).

You all have GOT to read this article...it's so fu...cking funny I almost pissed myself!   :D
I love how he finishes with "It’s possible I may change my mind down the road," he added. "The process of identity exploration is complex and often times at the end of our personal journey we end right back where we started."  :D

Sorry, I was a little agitated earlier when I posted it.  I have since cleaned up my language in this rant.  Again, My sincere apologies.

A friend recently told me that the “band wagon” to get on now is the “I identify as handicapped”…so, I guess? ….you just ‘pretend’ your legs don’t work, or you’re blind or whatever???  Then claim your government benefits? Is this really happening????

Also Biden and his mesmerized cult followers are going to charge some sort of “fee” on mortgages for responsible people that have good credit scores and then give that money (my money) to some POS jerks with poor credit so they can buy a house they can’t afford and probably aren’t planning on paying for anyway.
Did I mention….this really irrigates me?  How can this even be legal.  What use will a good credit score be?  I might as well let it tank and get free stuff that somebody else gets to pay for.
  • @Londy3
    Ok, wasn’t expecting that🙂.
  • Isn't TikTok a Chi-comm site?  :D
  • Yes, that’s common knowledge.

Yes, I know a lot of people aren't into this sort of thing, but I am...being 1/2 sort of British/Scot and all (whatever that means). Anyway, we are always bitching about how we lack tradition and shit, and increasingly devoid of history, well, you can't get much more traditional and historical than crowning the fucking King of England, can you?  :D
Here's the timeline for the ceremony--I'm certainly going to watch it.
Of course I'm sure because @Zouave is pure Scot...he'll be wearing his kilt, drinking and throwing shit at the TV screaming shit like "Charles ain't no fuckin' Scot...he's fakin' it...you bastards"! LOL  :D

When does the coronation ceremony begin?

King Charles and Queen Camilla will make the journey from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey starting at 05:20 EDT (10:20 BST), in a golden coronation coach. The service starts at 06:00 EDT (11:00 BST), and you can read more about the details of the service here., and about the crown that will be placed on his head here.

At 08:00 EDT (13:00 BST), the King and Queen leave Westminster Abbey in a ceremonial procession from through London back to Buckingham Palace, joined by other members of the Royal Family.

The day's official events will finish at about 09:00 EDT (14:00 BST) when the King and Queen, as well as members of the Royal Family will appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. If you need to remind yourself of who is in the Royal Family, we have all the details here. There will also be a six-minute flypast with dozens of aircraft used by the UK armed forces.

  • My ancestors left England in the early 1600's and were Massachusetts residents during the uprising against Britain. Their people are allies, their monarchy is useless.
