Here's what I'm saving up for. I'm still short about half the cost. I'm also having trouble figuring out how to blame @vtgrad2003. That excuse is starting to wear thin with me Bride anyway.
@opipeman I would like a Flintlock Late Lancaster Pennsylvania Rifle with a .50 caliber 36”-42” swamped barrel, full german silver hardware including a fancy metal patchbox and stock inlays, high grade curly maple stock with some nice engraving on the wood. Maybe someday….when I quit buying pipes, tobacco, cigars, airguns, knives, modern firearms, tools……
I would say too bad that they did not demonstrate the power of that musket on a pig carcass or some ballistic gel, but then the commies would be coming for the black powder firearms too. We don’t need that.
@RockyMountainBriar it's next to absolutely impossible for me to even GET black powder in NY. Years ago I just had to show my license, now because of the jackass regulations no one even bothers carrying it in NY. Now I just drive to PA and stock up there. It's a massive pain.
@Zouave Yea, Black Powder can be a pain. I have some Goex, but I use Pyrodex too. Pyrodex is usually easier to find because it’s not under the same storage restrictions.
@RockyMountainBriar I have never liked the way the pyrodex burns. By no means am I an expert, but to me it feels like it burns way to hot and fast for an older style musket. If I can get it goes and black elephant are the ones I usually get. The FFF grade is great in the rounds, but I like FFFF in the flash pan.
@Zouave Isn’t FFF pistol powder??😳. That should really up the pressure and speed in a musket? I’m not too familiar with muskets though, only rifles. Maybe since it is smooth bore, it develops less pressure??
All my BP guns are modern, so Pyrodex is ok for me.
@RockyMountainBriar when I use larger grain powder, it seems like the initial burst pushes the unburnt powder or still burning grains out of the muzzle. When I use the smaller grain stuff like FFF it all burns inside the barrel helping the velocity of the ball. This is just my experience with the miné balls for the Springfield. Like I mentioned before, I'm not sure any amount of messing around would get my smooth bore to shoot straight.
@RockyMountainBriar that just reminded me, if you are ever in NY, check this museum out. It's nuts! They have some sweet black powder artillery and a shit ton of fire arms.
I will only say this, having owned and shot a 454 Casull; these large caliber high velocity wheel guns are not comfortable to shoot, in my younger years my hand would go numb by about the 5th round and I would feel it for several days after.
I gave my 454 to my son for two reasons, I am unlikely to ever go back to Alaska to hunt at this stage in life and I don't want to hurt myself any more than I already have.
Oh and for most who do not reload, you will get sticker shock wen you see the price of the ammunition.
This is not intended to discourage anyone, just in the interest of full disclosure as it a big investment.

Now if I can just sell my wife on that " refurb pipes money/savings" idea... on second thought, that's not going to happen...😒
Just make up something...everybody blames me for everything anyway--I'm used it

I agree. Rifling improves accuracy.
Good eyes too😬. Which mine are not the best🙁
Smith & Wesson 460 XVR. Seriously considering this in my armory
This is a beast of a caliber.
I keep thinking it should come with a folding stock...
😬
Sweet, apparently not a conceal carry device. A lot of gun, baby!
