@RockyMountainBriar Yep, that's the way I load all my mags... Learned to do it that way, and the reason why, from a police officer about 14 to 18 years ago... smart way to do it buddy...
I do know some who load their rounds like that, but I've found, especially in smaller guns like my 380 or my 1.5 and single stack guns that I get more chambering issues. It's not a lot, grant you, but it does it enough to make me uncomfortable (especially in a potential self defense situation).
My double stack 9's aren't an issue but for some reason alternating rounds in a single or 1.5 stack is. But I do have a question for those that do, why? Why alternate rounds? It makes no real sense to me. HPs are mostly used for the spread, obviously, but also so they don't go through the target and hit someone else. So, if you're loading with HPs, why not just load the whole thing with HPs?
That said, I don't use hollowpoints on anything that has a barrel less than 4" anyway. You don't get the expansion with a shorter barrel and they tend to tumble more often so they're less accurate. When I fire HPs at the range out of barrels that short, it looks like a regular round went through the target unless it tumbled, then it (obviously) looks like it went through the target sideways but way off where I was sighting it. So I figure I might as well fire a regular round that's more accurate than an HP, especially in my 380, and I use Federal Syntech SD rounds in my short 9's. It's basically a frangible LRN with a polymer coating; it fragments instead of expands and less velocity is required to fragment because of the polymer coating, but with the clean chamber load of an FMJ; also a lot less recoil than an HP or FMJ, so you're back on target more quickly, and it's a ton more accurate. In my 38 snubs I use wadcutters--again, too short to get decent expansion from an HP which are also less accurate. Wadcutters have very low recoil and are far more accurate.
I can’t say that I have ever seen a bullet “keyhole” except for my old rusted shot-out almost smooth bore Stevens .22 LR target pistol and my original POS Bryco .380, which had a severely oversized bore from the factory. I sent it back and they sent me a new gun. It would hold a 3” group at 15 yards after that. It’s still a POS that has actually had the slide face buckle after shooting some hand cast 102 grain lead RN loaded…mmm…maybe a little hot for that “pot metal”. I am tempted to use it for a set-line weight now.
As far as alternating FMJ-HP, the .32ACP ain’t exactly a powerhouse so I figure the FMJ for the best pen possible wherever and through whatever. Then the HP for unprotected squishy parts.
I think I have mentioned it before, but a friend had a Bersa .380ACP and I had my 1910 Walther Model 4 in 7.65 (.32ACP). We both shot a pine/fir? 4x4 at about 3ft. With FMJ…(we were indoors in his basement *shhh*). The .380 went about 1/2 way through the board. The .32 went all the way through, passed a few inches of air (the board was leaned up against a wall) then proceeded through the wall into the closet….oops….it dinged the concrete floor and we found it on the closet floor. So, .32ACP does have ‘some’ penetration power. I have not actually seen what, if anything, a .32ACP HP does in a soft medium. As far as accuracy, I don’t expect miracles out of .32ACP. I would be hesitant to shoot at a ‘squishy’ at anything more than about 10ft.- 15ft.. At that type of distance, if I can’t stay on target I might as well use a 2x4. It’s not an optimal CCW, but it’s slightly better than a knife or 2x4….and I always carry it.
My friend has an old Walther PPK in a .32...it's one of those guns that are huge fun, but suck at the same time, lol. I have no idea how Bond actually shot anyone with it, LOL. Maybe because he's Bond...James Bond
@vtgrad2003 Man, a .32 PPK is one of my “unicorn” guns. I have a SS .380 PPK/S that is ok, but man I want the .32 PPK.
My Walther Model 4 will stack rounds on top of each other, on target, at 15 yards and its 100+ years old.
Two more of my “unicorn” pistols are a S&W Model 60 3” in .327 Federal…still kicking my ass for not buying one new, and a .32 H&R Magnum in a S&W 3”-4” (I think it’s a Model 36?).
My wife has a model 36 and 37 (the 37 in a round butt) and both shoot .38 not .357--both about 40 years old. Isn't the 60 a chrome model in 357? I don't have time to research right now, but I think that's the case isn't it?
@vtgrad2003 Looks like .32 H&R S&W were in the K Frame as a 16-4. Some J-Frame Models are 331/332, 431/432, 631/632. I think the 1-2 designators meant SS or Blued or Scandium and/or Titanium?
I use to have a .32 Colt Police Positive….another firearm I wished I would have kept, it was a great shooter too. This one is like the one I had. Ahh, wish in one hand $#!+ in the other….see which hand fills up faster😒
@opipeman That's exactly what they are trying to pump in people's minds...guns are evil, you don't need one and you need to hate and shame those that do. And those same in people promoting this have armed guards.
Kinda like they tried to do with covid. Hate, shame and blame the unvaccinated for all the problems...now the vaccinated ones are the problem and its getting worse.

I settled for a little tiger of a “mouse gun”.
What the hell is that?
My Kel-Tec P32, 32ACP. Very easy to carry everyday. So easy I sometimes forget I’m packing it. It’s alternately loaded FMJ-HP-FMJ…..

Very informative.
I personally haven't experienced that problem, but incidents like that are always good to know about...tnx... 🙂

Model 60 .357/.38 Stainless Steel. Same as at least some “Lady Smith’s”.

The 686 plus deluxe, 4 inch peacemaker is my favorite.
”Peacemaker” = Colt 😉🙂
It's not really called that. But that's what I call it 😁. These are both Smith & Wesson.

True, but it would beat appearing in the obituaries for a week.

Interesting, when can I order mine?? May be a bit difficult to conceal.
