I snagged a couple of tins of this Sutliff Signature Series by Per Georg Jenson “Uno”. It was a bit worrying for me as it is Sutliff and I have not had good luck with any Sutliff tobaccos. Also, it contains Latakia, the descriptions I have seen/heard say a light amount. I’m not a fan of Latakia, a person might as well scrape some shavings off a railroad tie and smoke that in their pipe😖. Upon opening a tin, there is a light Latakia note…oh oh! It is pretty light though👍🏻 There is also a sort of sharp poo-poo note, probably from the two types of Perique “Crap” (for @vtgrad2003😬) AND, it is the strangest cut of tobacco I have seen. It looks like a crumble cake that has been sliced into thick bars…not flakes, bars, think hearty cut French-fry, weird🤔. It also seems very dry for a Sutliff tobacco.
Maybe not. I just stabbed a bar with my moisture meter, it says it’s a whopping 36%….I guess it deceived me, 36% is more what I expect from Sutliff, and this is a pressed tobacco at that. My preferred moisture for smoking, when I can wait for it to dry, is 10%-12%. This tobacco has enough of a poo-poo/Latakia tin note that I am not going to dare to smoke this indoors, or in a briar….at least not at first.
Well, my TAD addiction finally got the better of me. I submitted an order to P&C last Friday afternoon, and look what I found on the doorstep at lunchtime...
Just received my order for the C&D small batch Palmetto Balkan, opened a can (only sold in 1/2 lb container)
Very oriental forward as expected which contributes some spice, the red virginias are excellent, Jeremy did some sort of new process on the crappy oh it sucks Latakia (vtgrad, RockyMoutainBriar) that diminishes it to be more like Syrian Latakia (which its not).
I liked the blend but was left wanting a bit more of the Latalia flavor. Fortunately I have a stash of several latakias so improvements are easy.
@mapletop Yep, the Latakia addition kept my T.A.D. in check on that one….I thought about it though because of the orientals. Had it been in a “normal” sized tin, I still might have went for it.
@RockyMountainBriar Well I'll tel you the Latakia is very muted, I'm not suggesting you buy any, just saying there isn't that much of it and it's pretty wimpy.
@KA9FFJ, yes, there are still a few B&Ms around. Atlanta has a few good ones. Not so many out here in the country. The local one advertises cigars, pipes, and "exotic leather". I walked in and asked for the exotic leather and they all laughed. The place serves alcohol as well, but unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to sit and enjoy a good beer with a pipe there. My schedule is way too busy.
I couldn’t resist the MM C&D “Southport Ferryman”, although it is larger than I expected. I have been wanting to try Mac Baren’s “St. Bruno Flake” for awhile now, the description and reviews were intriguing. I am not disappointed by the tin note, there is a “different” floral? note. It should be interesting. I usually buy at least two tins of a tobacco, but this stuff is kinda pricey, especially since it’s only a 1.75 oz. tin.

Is there a brand name on the pipe?
How do you like Folklore?
WOW!!

If the "poo-poo note" comes through, just let us know and then you can quit writing about it...🤢🤮
Are you sure that your cat didn't add a "poo-poo note" ingredient to the blend? I apologize, I just couldn't help meself.
😂😂😂

@RockyMountainBriar “Latakia Sucks!”.
@vtgrad2003 “That Perique Crap Sucks!”
😬
Love to hear when people frequent B&Ms...
