I am delighted to say I had my first bowl in months, yesterday on the rear deck, in the warm sunshine. Barbados Plantation, of course, in my first ever Carey pipe, purchased when I was in seminary, circa 1968.
@motie2 Hang in there, my brother. And if you feel up to it and want to talk, I'll pm you my phone #. No one ever gives pastoral care to the pastor. I'd be honored to do so for you.
@motie2 That's wonderful news! I hope you were able to enjoy your pipe and that you'll be able to have many more moments like this in the next coming weeks.
@motie2 Really gave some thought to buying a 3/4 bent, E.A. Carey Magic Inch pipe at a junktique shop in Tennessee. It was priced at $25 but I don't know anything about the Magic Inch and you were hors de combat.
@mseddon -- Offer much appreciated @PappyJoe -- I wouldn't pay more than $20 for any used/estate Carey unless it was some thing really special, like:
for which I paid $26 and change ) but I strongly recommend Carey Magic Inch pipes. All my pipes are Carey's except for a Duncan Hill Aerosphere (marketed by Carey) and a Charatan Zulu/Horn which was a gift.
@motie2 Awesome to hear you smoked your pipe! Not to diminish what you're still going through, I take this as a positive sign! Praying for your full recovery, as is everyone else. Be strong!
@motie2 ~ It's so very good to see your occasional posts here as you continue to recover. In case you haven't noticed, you've been sorely missed. Continued good vibes headed your way for a full recovery!
I'll confirm that Carey's are good smokers .I restored an old Carey that belonged to my father, bought a new English Gentleman from the website and purchased a unique freehand off of eBay. It seems I reach for one of them more often than not.
I hate this guy: my urologist took out my suprapubic catheter but couldn't get the replacement in. Had to ask his nurse to do it. More fun for me, the patient.
No. I'm on my second suprapubic catheter (the second surgery), and 10 mg. Lexapro (today was sixth day; I'm told it takes weeks.....), and seeing a psychologist once a week. Next appointment with urologist at end of July.
None of it much helps with the abdominal pain and the right leg sciatica.

Not getting better; not getting worse.
